It was the morning of November 18th, 1988, Linda had just gotten out of the shower when she got the call. She just stood there, naked for what it seemed like ages with the phone in her hands. She was crying and hugging the phone to her body.
"No. This isn't possible. She wasn't sick, she would've told me." She responded in the phone before throwing it across her apartment. She stood there shaking her head, "No, she's not gone." She said to herself. But in fact, she was. Gia died at 10 a.m. the morning of November 18th, 1988. Linda stayed home most of the time after that, rarely leaving the bed. The funeral was the next week, November 23rd. Linda attended in a dress that almost hung off her. She spent the whole day sitting next to Gia's grave crying. The next morning she was surprised to find herself asleep next to Gia's grave. Linda awoke to sharp pains in her lower stomach area. As she got up she felt something wet dripping down her leg, blood. She called for an ambience at the nearest phone booth. At the hospital the doctors ran several tests, they all came back negative.
"Well," The doctor looked at Linda, "there is only one answer at we can come up with that explains the symptoms you have." The doctor was tall, had dark hair and a little bit of scruff on his face. Linda was now intensely looking at the doctor, she had an idea of what was happening but she wasn't positive.
"We believe, you are two months pregnant." There it was, the news Linda knew was coming. "May I ask, how did you not know you were pregnant?" The doctor asked Linda, she took this a little offensively.
"Well doctor, when you lose someone you really love, you have to find a coping method. Mine was nonstop eating. And missing a period wasn't to irregular to me, so I didn't think much of it. Besides, my ex and I used protection every time. I guess at one point the condom broke and neither of us knew it."
"I-- " The doctor started, but before he could speak another word Linda interrupted.
"It was very nice to meet you, truly. But I have to get back to New York and tell someone that they are the father to my child. So good day."

Linda was at the counter cutting up some vegetables for dinner, when she felt that warm sensation running down her leg just like at the grave site. Although this time it wasn't as stick, she looked down to see her pants all wet.
"Fuck!" She yelled. "Billy!" She yelled once more looking around the apartment. "Son of a bitch! Where the hell are you! My fucking water just broke." As she said this Billy can running from around the corner to the phone.
"Hello?! Yes, we need an ambulance at --"

Well, that's how that day went. Linda was rushed to the hospital with Billy right by her side. The labor was a little over 10 hours. The baby was a girl, 7 lbs even and 19 inches. Linda and Billy fought over what to name her, Sam short for Samantha, or Jess, short for Jessica. But they both agreed on Elizabeth. For short Lizzie, Linda won the argument that she gets to pick the middle name since she was getting her last name.
So, there I was. Elizabeth Gia Tanner. Born on June 7th, 1989 at 4:08 pm in room 15. On the 16th story of a 23 story high hospital. To this day, I don't know why my mom picked Gia as my middle name. She doesn't give me a straight answer me when I ask. My dad's no help either, he just says it's just a name. But I disagree. Who is Gia? And why am I named after her?
