The moral story that I chose was entitle, "The Cocoon and the Butterfly". I choose this story because it teaches a lesson. This short story was about a butterfly that was not able to live a life like any other butterfly. In this short moral story, there was a man who loved butterflies so much that he even spent more time with them. Then, he saw a cocoon with tiny opening which means that the butterfly was trying to make its way out of the cocoon. He then decided to sit over and watch how the butterfly would come out of the cocoon. But after 10 hours, the butterfly is still struggling. It seemed that the butterfly tried its best and could not give any more try. So, he decided to help the butterfly. He got a pair of scissors and tweaked the cocoon to make larger opening for the butterfly and removed the remaining cocoon, then the butterfly emerged without any struggle. Unfortunately, the butterfly looked no longer beautiful and had a swollen body with small and withered wings and it just crawled around with withered wings and huge body. It was never able to fly all through its life.
The lesson of this short story is never to be afraid to face challenges in life, instead be thankful because you experience them. It is because these challenges will mold you into a very beautiful and awesome human being in the future. In addition, it will make you strong and bold. And it will also help you make or choose the best decisions in life. Some of us keep on complaining to God and questioning God why am I experiencing this, why me, and many other complaints without thinking of the reason for those challenges. Instead of questioning God, why not thank Him for He is preparing you for the bigger battles you have to face in the future. This story also teaches as not to rush the things in life. Always savor and enjoy the moment before it ends because there is a possibility that you can't do that again and all you can do in the end is to regret.
As a student, I have a lot of challenges encountered every day. Examples are struggle of waking up early just to attend 6:00 AM class, the struggle of studying many subjects during prelim, midterm, semifinal and final exams, sleeping at 2:00 AM doing laboratory activities or reports, attending class not prepared for the quiz, attending class trying not to sleep and trying to listen to the listen no matter how boring he or she discussed, going in the canteen trying to convince yourself not to buy or spend too much so I still have money for the remaining days of the week, doing projects and other requirements overnight trying to make it on time, finding good internet connection just to answer the exams or quizzes held at XU Elearn and answer assignments to be researched, trying to budget my 24 hours a day, praying there would be additional hour so I still have time to rest, and many other students' struggle. They say it was normal since I am student. Yes, it is normal! But, most of the time, I don't have time to rest anymore because most of my time are spent with frustrating school stuffs. Because of this, I wonder if I am still healthy or my brain is already broken inside. But after reading this short story, I realized that I am not the only one experiencing these college problems. All those successful billionaires and millionaires who graduated in college also experienced what I am experiencing right now. Then, I come to realize, if they were able to make it, I can make it also. What I am experiencing right now has nothing to do with what they had experienced since I am still in the beginning of this college struggle. My struggle is just a glimpse of what they had. If I really want to succeed, I have to face these challenges bravely and conquer them smiling bearing in mind that after these challenges lies the fruits of my hard work and patience, and it will be very satisfying.
There are numerous people in the world right now and each of us has his own preferences. Some may want to take things easily or they want to take it slow while others want to take things on rush or they want it to happen quickly. It can be compared to the famous tagline near every elevator in the school that goes like this, "There is no elevator to success. You have to take the stairs." Most of the students just wait when will be the elevator goes down, especially those who have classes on the 6th floor, while others take the stairs. It is like other people want to reach their final destination quickly or they want to make it happen in a short span of time. On the other hand, there are people who want to deal things slowly. They want to follow procedures and patiently wait for the result. The man on the story of Cocoon and the Butterflies is a person who wants to rush things. That's why in the end, he was not able to witness the real beauty of the butterfly. The metamorphosis of the butterfly can be like a human life. At first, we are like the caterpillars which is very undesirable to look at. But as time goes by, we develop into a more mature individuals and the best of our selves will come out just like the last stage of the butterfly, colorful and beautiful. I am one of those people who wants to rush the things in life, but after doing so, I realize that there is something lacking and it doesn't look like the way I wanted it to be. Now, I will try to do things the way it should be because sometimes shortcuts are the reason why you miss a very important moment in your life.
This short but inspiring story made me realize that I should know how face problems bravely because God has a reason for everything that is happening to me. Also, I must know how to do things step by step so that the result will satisfy me. I hope and pray that I must remember the lessons from this story so I will be shaped into a courageous woman ready to conquer every problem either big or small.
