It was a damp and gloomy Sunday morning. Like all the other folks in the neighbourhood Catherine was lying on her bed, too lazy to move.

The only thing that lightened up her mood was the presence of her best friend right beside her. They were lying beside each other having a serious conversation.

They rarely did that. So this was obviously extremely important.

"But it will be a lot of fun. I know you've never been to one before but there always is a first time, right?" Chad pleaded with puppy eyes.

"But, you know I'm not a party type of person. It's not my cup of tea." Catherine said sadly.

"But, I'll be there with you the whole time so you have nothing to worry about." He argued.
"So will you come?" He asked unsure of himself.

She contemplated for a while.
"I will." She finally gave in with a sigh.

The next few moments were filled with Chad jumping up and down in happiness.

Catherine smiled to herself.

Chad suddenly pulled her into a bear hug and only let her go when she began complaining that she was running out of air.

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much, Cathy. I promise that you won't regret your decision." He grinning from one ear to the other.

Catherine couldn't help but chuckle at his enthusiasm but she couldn't understand what he was so happy about. It was she who was going to attend a party for the first time and it should've been her jumping all over the place. But she wasn't.

She wasn't so sure about this.

She had restricted herself from all this for so long that now she had begun to hate them.

But Chad on the other hand never missed even a single opportunity. Maybe that's why he was so popular and she wasn't, even though she was his best friend.

In the beginning Catherine had thought that maybe Chad would be ashamed of her and maybe not talk to her anymore, now that he was popular and all, but he had proved her wrong.

He had always been there for her, no matter what, and whenever she asked anything he was more than willing to bring it right at her feet.

Knowing his kind and gentle nature her mom also didn't mind him coming over or vice versa.

Now she wanted to repay his favours. It was just a small party, that's all, she chided herself.

She slept early that day. She had a long weekend ahead of her.

Catherine woke up with a smile plastered on her face.

She was finally going to a party with her best friend. And she trusted him with her life.

Who wouldn't trust a guy like Chad. He had even broken up with his girlfriend for her. Stacey had always suspected the friendship between Chad and her. He couldn't tolerate this and he had broken up with her never to look at her face again.

Catherine couldn't wait for the sun to set.

"Mom?" Catherine asked quietly. "There is this party..."
She couldn't complete her sentence.
"Go." Her mom replied happily. "Act like a normal teenager for once." She smiled.
"But remember don't drink, smoke and most importantly...."
"I know mom, please don't continue." Catherine said smiling awkwardly.

She couldn't help but thank God for giving her such an amazing mother. Ever since her father had passed away, her mother had transformed into both parents. She worked as a nurse but always found time for her daughter. Catherine had never felt the absence of her father. Her mother had made sure of it.
