AN: Hi! I'm Makenna. I've had this idea forever and I finally decided to get on here and start working. I'm not too sure how long a typical chapter is supposed to be. Bear with me here, it's the first story I've typed on wattpad. I'll try to update frequently, but I'm super busy. Any brand or TV show or anything I mention in here belongs to whoever it belongs to. Sorry if my spelling and grammer is terrible. Last but not least, ENJOY. Leave comments, questions, or whatever it is you do on here!
Xandra Banks couldn't decide about what pants to bring to the Banks Family Reunion. It only happened once every five years, so Mrs. Banks always had to get tons of pictures of Xandra with every single one of her cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. It was a tiring event that began at eight in the morning and lasted until eight at night. The subjects would be things like; Hi! How old are you now?, Do you play any sports?, You've grown since I saw you last! Frankly, Xandra hated it. Eventually every single one of them would die anyways. "What was so important about knowing your third cousin, twice removed?" She thought while shoving every pair of pants she owned into her tiny suitcase. Her mother would probably say, "Who needs 7 pairs of pants for a three-day trip?" Over the years, Xandra had learned that you always need extra pants. The more pants the merrier. She was glad that her mother hadn't been around to help her pack. It would've just been a whole bunch of pointless bickering. Xandra zipped up her suitcase, then ran downstairs to the living room.
"Is George home?" Gryffyn Sanders asked Xandra as she ran downstairs. "I'm not exactly sure. If he is, he's up in his room." "Thanks kid." Gryffyn said, flying up the stairs. Gryffyn was a person that Xandra couldn't stand. He tended to be really nice on the outside, but then super harsh on the inside. Xandra always thought that maybe his past had something to do with it. She could never understand why George, her old brother, hung around with him. He was trouble with a capital T. A few minutes later, George and Gryffyn came downstairs. "We're going up to the store to get some food for us to eat on the way to Sacramento." George said, walking out the door with Gryffyn. "Abra is coming over later." Xandra mentioned just before he could slip out the door. Abra Foster was Xandra's best friend. The two had known each other since kindergarten, and they've been friends ever since. Abra's real name was Abraline, but she preferred Abra. She was an introvert, who only chose to open up to a few people. "You tell Abraline that I want her to stay out of trouble." Gryffyn said. Abra had been hanging around Gryffyn's old group of friends who got him into some trouble. "Will do." Xandra promised.
Abra showed up about an hour or two later with her purse full of movies and snacks. The two girls sat on the green bean bags in front of the TV. "So I'm assuming you're only going to the reunion because your mother is forcing you?" Abra asked Xandra. Xandra nodded, "I wish I didn't have to go. I feel like I'll miss a lot." "You probably will." Abra responded. Xandra stood up and grabbed the popcorn packages and put them in the microwave. "Did you hear the news at all today?" Xandra questioned. "Yeah I did. I feel like everyone is freaking out. It's nothing to worry about. I think we'll all be okay." Abra answered. Xandra turned away from the microwave with a shocked look on her face. "You're being suprisingly optimistic about the whole situation. I figured you'd be the one to say we're all going to die soon, not me." "You think we'll die?" Abra looked quite scared. "I think we will eventually. Well, we all will eventually. I just mean like because of the disease thing." "Can you even pronounce it's name?" Xandra laughed because she knew it was something super strange, "No. Can you?" "I honestly don't even remember it." Abra laughed. After the popcorn was finished popping, the two went back to the bean bags. They put it in the back of their mind and didn't think anything of it.
When George and Gryffyn got back, Xandra and Abra were still in the bean bags. "What kind of crap is this?" Gryffyn said grabbing the remote. "It's good crap!" Abra laughed. Gryffyn flopped down next to the two girls. George went to the kitchen to find the ketchup. "I brought french fries!" George exclaimed. The french fries were from Doc's Kitchen, a little french fry stand near the Space Needle. No fries could beat Doc's fries. George stole the remote from Gryffyn and said, "I really think we should be watching the news. This stuff is important." Xandra sighed, "You know that you're not a fun big brother, right?" "This stuff could effect us right here, right here in Seattle. We need to be cautious, that's all." Xandra just turned around and stopped fighting with him. The news anchor on the TV said, "I'm not even sure how much of the population we've lost. No one does. It's all happened way too fast." Abra grabbed the remote, "I can't be worried about this. I have other problems in my life to worry about." The four sat in the room awkwardly for a while, the only sound being the chewing of their fries. "I'm done sitting here. I'm gonna go call Mom and Dad." George said shovelling the last bit of fries into his mouth. The others still sat, finishing up their fries.
"Did they pick up yet? They already should've landed in Sacramento." Xandra said to George. "It just keeps beeping. You wanna try?" Xandra pulled out her phone and dialed her mom's number. "You're right. It just goes straight to a beeping sound. I wonder if it got disconnected somehow. We should text Aunt Mary." "Let's just call her, okay?" The phone rang a few times, then someone said hello on the other end. "Aunt Mary? Hi! It's George, your nephew. I just wanted to know if Mom and Dad made it there all right. They're not there? No, there weren't any delays. Maybe they're still at the airport. Yeah, that's probably it. I'll tell Xandra not to worry. Okay. Thanks. See you in about 72 hours. Love you." George hung up. "Are they there?" Xandra asked. "Aunt Mary thinks that they just got lost on there way there. I'm sure they're fine." "If they don't call by tomorrow night, I'd file a missing person report." Gryffyn interjected. "There'll be no need for that. They'll call, I know it." George sounded hopeful. Xandra knew she just had to be positive. "They couldn't be dead. The disease with the funky name isn't even in Seattle yet." She thought.

"Did your mom call yet?" Abra asked the next day. The two girls were walking to their seventh period science class. "George hasn't texted me yet, so no. I'm starting to worry." Xandra put her head down. "I'm sure they're okay. They're probably laughing it up with your Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim." Abra said in a positive tone. "What has gotten into you lately? You're way too positive." Xandra replied. Seventh period was Xandra's least favorite period of the day. She could never concentrate anyways, and especially not today. All she could think about was her parents. She prayed that they were okay, and that Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim were cooking them lunch. Xandra always kept in the back of her mind the disease. Her parents could've gotten the disease somehow. They could be dead. The bell rang finally and Mr. Jones stopped her on the way out of class. "A lot on your mind today, Banks?" He asked. He must've seen her completely zone out. "More than you know." She huffed and walked into the hallway.
Abra and Gryffyn somehow reached Xandra's house before she did. They were all sitting in a sort-of circle around George's phone. The three waited, hoped, and prayed that Mr. and Mrs. Banks were okay. Xandra set her school books down and joined the circle. The group sat in silence for twenty more minutes before Xandra said, "This is pointless. All we are doing is making ourselves worry. Whenever they call, they call. George, put your phone on ring and let's like play a board game or watch Youtube videos to pass time." Abra went to the game cupboard and pulled out Uno. Uno was an old favorite of the four. They'd played it since they'd known each other. "This'll pass the time quicker." Gryffyn said.
About three hours later, the phone finally rang. They were all too nervous to pick up on the first ring. Xandra picked it up on the second. "Hello? Who is this? What? Are they okay? Where are these lists posted? I'll go check after I hang up. You can't be serious. They can't be dead. No. I don't believe it. Wait! Sir, don't hang-" The other end went silent. "So?" George asked worriedly. "I thought it was Uncle Jim at first, but I guess it was some guy from the Sacramento Hospital. Mom and Dad's name are on the list of infected, quarantined, and dead. He said there is one p-p-pos-" Xandra broke down and fell to the floor. "THEY CAN'T BE DEAD!" She wailed. George, holding back tears, pulled Xandra into his arms and held her. "Xandra. Calm down and tell me where the lists are posted." "CITY HALL!" Xandra continued sobbing.

George looked back at the group from the lists at City Hall, tears streaming down his face. "Mom and Dad are dead, Xandra. They're dead. We can't do anything now, we just have to pray we don't get sick." Abra patted Xandra's back. "We'll help you get through this." Gryffyn said calmly, about to lose control. "Guys, we need to head to the super market. Stock up on everything. We need food, medicine, toilet paper, blankets, and pretty much everything else. We should go now. Seattle is about to become chaotic. Xandra, I need you to be strong for me and for Mom and Dad. Gryffyn, I want you to get any medicine left. Buy as much as you can. Abra, you get blankets, sweatshirts, ad warm stuff. Xandra, you get as much food as you can. I'll get anything that pops out at me. We're gonna go to the car now, then drive to Wal-Mart. Let's go." George said to the group. They all nodded and rushed to the car. Except Xandra, who walked very slowly, the weight of the world crashing on her shoulders.
That's the end of chapter one! I hoped you enjoyed it.
