Soul's Point of View (The next day)

His heart skipped a beat as he walked the road to your house. He hated admitting that to himself but his palms were sweaty and his nervousness was a bit too active for his liking. He and Maka knew you were avoiding them. You had taken on more missions in the past week and would barely glance at them in classes, looking like a nervous wreck when you did.

'This is so uncool,' he thought as he was walking on the pavement. He was referring to how he thought he had ruined it all. Maybe he was too forward and you didn't return the feelings.

But he had opened up to Maka about it after she got onto him about putting you in that situation. Once she had properly scolded him, him playing it off by scoffing and rolling his eyes, she had noticed how off he seemed.

They had gone over how you might actually have feelings towards him and what he should do to fix the situation. Maka had the genius idea that he should bring you chocolate and go see if he can make it up to you. She had reasoned that it was also a hint showing he was serious about how he felt. Soul thought it was cliché, but, well, she is really smart and he had no other ideas on what to do.

So here he is, stopped in front of your door with one hand frozen in a knocking position, and the other holding a box of chocolate. He scrunched his nose, feeling uncool that he was so nervous about seeing you. He feels glad too, he realizes, getting to see you was always a plus in his book.

Mustering up his courage, he knocked on the door three times. Waiting, he noticed he had a heavier feeling in his stomach, and it felt different than the previous jumble of nerves. He knocked again and waited another minute.

He sighed and shifted to bring out the key you had given him. You and Shira had extended an open door to your house for him and Maka, either pair popping into each other's apartments randomly most times. He didn't want to this time because he knew you were upset, but he also didn't want you to stay upset. He thought back on times that the other three busted into each others homes to resolve a problem, so he figured now it was his turn to give it a go.

Hesitantly, he unlocked the door and pushed it open. The boy's eyes scanned the room and he noticed that a few of your pairs of shoes had disappeared from the shoe rack. The silence of the house was off putting and it felt lonely as he closed the door behind him and announced his presence.

There was no response, and he wondered if maybe you had left for a bit, or maybe you were sleeping. But he knew the missing shoes were suspicious.

He walked up to where the bedrooms were, noticing how clean your living room was. It seemed a bit untouched. When he got to the doors, Shira's was still closed, but yours was wide open. He didn't need to walk in to your room to see how neat and unused everything was. He felt his heart speed up a bit as he checked the windows and doors, despite knowing it was unlikely that someone had broken in.

Panic had risen to his chest, but he was determined to find out what happened. He walked to the kitchen to place down the box and continue to find clues.

That was when he found the note.

He recognized your handwriting before seeing any of the words. There was a wave of relief, knowing you had left this. He was confused on why you might leave a note until he started to read the familiar handwriting that had made him feel safe.
