Carmen POV
After hearing Crystal's words, I freeze out. The Capitol? I question it. But we have no choice. If we continue to stay at the meadow, we'll die within half an hour.
The flames are getting nearer to us. The meadow is huge. With luscious grass and greenery of all sorts. So far, most of the Districts' sceneries has been demolished, leaving a charred "District 12"and a few smoking Districts.
I see that the only exit is the Capitol. Lux and Crystal are flabbergasted as well. I remember Lux suggesting to stay here. Unfortunately, we can't. Fire will burn. And we will burn with it if we don't escape.
Escape. Escape. Escape. This word is running through me. Crystal is panicking as she sees the flames. Five minutes ago, we had decided on the Capitol. But now, it seems like we are rooted to the ground, stuck and unable to move a inch.
I prepare my bow and arrows. Seeing that my alliance is unable to give any legitimate instructions, I lead them through the fire. Smoke burns through my lungs but we carry on. Breathing is a challenge after this. But we still manage to bolt off to the Capitol.
As we finally find a decent resting area, I see the last of the meadow go down in ashes.
"Goodbye." I mutter before the meadow barwely becomes anything but burnt, charred aches of grass. The flowers are burnt to the worst degree. The meadow doesn't live up to its name. Instead of a meadow that is beauty to my eyes has been reduced to nothing but waste. Waste that is entertainment to the eyes of the Capitol citizens.
Tears stream down my face. I don't know why. Does this remind me too much of home? Home. The one thing I would beg for. Home. Where we were poor but we had each other. Until Clifford was gone. That changes our lives. Everything he liked, from the colour of black to the falling of snow, would be banned from us. Everything black was discarded and when it snowed, we were shut up and never allowed to walk out.
As I wipe away those icy tears, I decide to take a walk around the "Capitol". However, Lux stops me.
"Stop fighting this. Hunting doesn't equal forgetting!" He irritatedly screeches.
"Shut it, Capitol. You barely know me. Anyways, I'm going." I coldly hiss.
As I walk away into the Capitol's scenery, I see Crystal still staring at me with her grey eyes. Those eyes that she inherited from Katniss. I feel guilt stab constantly stab at my heart. But I keep going.
As I venture through the Capitol's scenery, I see many things. Some like meat and bread that are just left unarmed or guarded are assumed as poisons. Some are like the holograms of President Snow and other significant people in the country. But the one that catches my eye is the Mockingjay pin.
Grandma's pin is spinning at a rapid speed around a pedestal. I walk up before I hear a snap of a branch.
