"My mother warned me about the drugs on the streets but not the ones with brown eyes and a heart beat."

Last day of school before summer, thank god. I've been waiting for this day since we came back to school. It's not that I hate learning and education it's school itself. Because I don't want to wake up at 6am every morning to go to a place where all I feel is stupid and judged.

Summer is my favourite time of the year. It's my time to relax and not stress out over school and grades, etc. But yet I never do anything, just sit on my laptop all day laughing at things I find on Tumblr and eating.

All my friends have been talking about for the past week is all the cool stuff they'll be doing this summer, yet I know I'll be doing none of it. It's just not my scene, I'm too lazy.

Probably the most I'll do this summer to leave my house is going to the park nearby. I go there every night and watch the stars in the summer, I have done so ever since I was younger. It's when the sky is the clearest and you can see them the best. I get immersed in watching the bright shapes, light up the sky before my eyes, it's truly magical.

My phone starts to buzz vibrating my bedside table breaking my train of thought. I stretch my arm over my body in an attempt to pick my phone up. After a moment of struggling I finally decide to just sit up and pick my phone up before the call ends. "Hello?" I say whilst picking up my bag and throwing it on my shoulder.

"Hurry up, I'm here!" I hear maddie screaming down the other end of the phone. If she was to yell any louder I'd hear her from outside. Maddie and I have been good friends since we were about 8. She drives us to school every morning since we live so close to each other.

I run down my stairs to meet my dog, Balthazar. My little brother named him since he was his birthday gift. I'm attacked with saliva and a wet tongue slapping my face. "Down boy!" Trying to push off the dog nearly as large as me.

"Bye dad!" I shout before running out with no reply. I jump into the side of maddies black jeep slamming the door behind me. I Pull my seatbelt over my body and click it in, I sigh in relief that we have just enough time to get to school. Maddie draws me questionable look, probably on my choice of clothing again since I basically live in baggy jumpers and black jeans. "Well, let's go! We have 10 minutes to get to school!"

She rolls her eyes with a slight grin and starts to drive. I watch the trees and cars speed by me through the window. I can't believe it's the last day of school today, then tomorrow I'm 16. Good start to summer.

"Bye maddie see you later" I wave as I walk to my first class. Great 8 minutes late thanks to the traffic. Which means I'll be the last one into class and everyone will be staring at me, just great.

Pulling the door open with a struggle I quickly run to my seat avoiding any unnecessary attention. Unlucky for me by the time I had taken my seat the whole class was staring in my direction. "And why are you late Mariana?"

I hate it when the teacher says my name aloud. Since it's not common I get frequent questions on how to say it and how my mother came up with the name, etc. I don't even know the answer, I'm guessing it's something to do with the fact that she is Spanish. To avoid, them I sit quiet and shrug my shoulders.

"Well?" Mrs Bennett huffed crossing her arms. "Slept in" I mumbled. Disregarding my comment she continued talking about the Pythagoras' theorem. "Pythagoras' theorem states that, in any right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to th-" she was cut off by the loud oak door being pulled open.

Every head in the room turned to the door, including Mrs Bennett's. Through the door, walked the small and plump headmaster Mr burns. Behind him was a boy with messy golden brown locks and tan skin. Sitting up the back, I didn't get a great view, but a good enough position to hear the girls whispering about how 'hot' this boy is.
"Omg, look at his tan skin! I bet you he's foreign!"

"Accents are so hot"

"He can teach me his language all day long"

I rolled my eyes in disgust, typical teenage girls. I focus my attention onto the rain. My eyes were locked on the rain drops descending from the grey clouds. Each droplet splattering on the window. I'm always so blown away by the beauty of nature. "Everyone settle down, attention here please!" Mr Burns shouted.

"Okay, this is Sebastian he'll be in this math class after summer, I'm just showing him around and I expect you all to be very kind to him when he joins." The class started making noise again as the teachers quietly talked. I put my earphones in drowning out the noise. My gaze fixated on the rain again.

"I can't believe it's the first day of summer and it's raining" maddie spoke. "Are you ever not complaining?" I asked her. It's not a bad thing that it's raining, all the more excuse for me to stay in and not have to find excuses to not go out. Oitnb, tvd, gossip girl & teen wolf marathons, yup sounds great to me.

"I've got to go, Kels needs me" maddie exclaimed, jumping off my bed texting frantically. "Kels?" I furrowed my eyebrows confused. "Kelsey I mean" she rolled her eyes. "Since when do we called her Kels?" I stood up from my bed, sitting on the couch next to my window. "Oh, it's just a thing that's kind of between us, any way she need me right now. I'll see you tomorrow!" Before I could get out another word she had left my room.

I'll admit, it kind of hurts when maddie cancels our plans. I know she'll say it's important, but I can't help but feel like it's actually just because better options of stuff to do has come alone, rather than a day in with me. I'm sure I'll see it all over snapchat tonight.

"Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday Mariana, happy birthday to you!" My brother and father sang as they walked through with a giant red velvet cupcake with a '16' candle lit on the top. I inhaled a deep breathe then poured it out my lungs blowing the candle out and leaving the 'birthday cake' scent in the air.

"Happy birthday honey." my dad kissed my head and lifted the cake. "Well, shall we get this cut? Mariana if you go to your bedroom your gift will be in there." he gave a sweet smile as I did back. I quickly run up my stairs and on my bed sat a Small violet envelope.

I picked it up and carefully opened it. The card inside wrote "16" on the front. When I opened it a card came flying out and landing on my carpet. I picked it up to realise it was a credit card. he bought me a credit card? he listened after my month or nagging him for one. I can't help but jump up in down, I'm so happy!

"It has $200 I expect you to buy new clothes with it." I heard my dad behind me and stopped me jumping. A huge smile rose to my mouth as I ran up to him and hugged him. "Thank you, thank you!" I shouted. "Okay,so tomorrow be up and ready for 9, maddie and Kelsey are going to take you shopping!" My dad smiled at me.

Seriously? They're going to make me buy so much stuff I'll never want to wear. I gave a smile back because I'm not going to act ungrateful, because I honestly am. We're cut off from our talk when billy runs upstairs with the phone in his hand. "It's mom" he held the phone out to me. I gave a smile and ran over to grab the phone from his hands.

"Hey mom!" I grinned clutching the phone to my face.

"feliz cumpleaños mi pollo poco! sorry I couldn't be there. I hate last minute business calls as much as you."

"It's fine mom, I'll see you tomorrow though." I hated it when my mom couldn't be home for special events.

"Well I've got to go now, I'll see you tomorrow, bye!"

But I wouldn't, little did I know, that would be the last time I spoke to her.
