What Happens On the Ranch, Stays On the Ranch

Prologue

Warning this prologue is a bit miss mashed, and just gives you an idea of how she feels about being back at the ranch, even if she seems like a biotch, I promise she gets better :)

I exited the car with about as much excitement as a beef going to the slaughterhouse. I trudged up to the front stoop, stepping around the barking border collie who if I remember correctly, is Yap. Next thing I know the door is swung open and I was enveloped in my mother's arms with the smell of lunch wafting in from behind her.

"Hello darling, welcome home! I missed you so much!" She said while jumping up and down.

As much I did not miss this place, I really did miss her. I remember how on Christmas Day she would wake my brother and I up by opening up our curtains and then before we could get mad at her for interrupting our sleep she would put her famous buttermilk/blueberry pancakes in front of our faces and we would immediately forget the offence she made on our sleep. Sighing I say,

"Yeah, missed you too, Mom." I than go through the small ranch style house and I go to my old room, only to see it made into an office. My Mom is quick to steer me away and she shows me to a guest room she had made for my stay.

"How could you just get rid of all of his stuff like that?! He died okay, but his memory didn't! How could you?" I say outraged! Sure it had been 5 years, but so what? He still needed to be remembered!

"Sweetie,-"

"Don't call me that!" I interrupt,

"Rebecca, it is time to let go, it has been 5 years. I haven't forgotten him. Neither have you, but you need to let go of what happened, it is in the past!" My Mom starts her holier-than-thou speech,

"Look I am not a kid anymore, so if you could excuse me, I am here for one year until I turn eighteen, just leave me be until than and I will be out of here in no time." I say leaving the house and storming into the woods.
