Dirty Little Secret

Chapter 10

"Hey Kat, so did you talk to him?" Katie said.

"Oh, yeah..we didn't have much talking to do. Everything's good now." I was lying.

"How could you not have that much to say?"

"I don't know.."

"You promised you'd talk about it before hooking up with him again."

"I know."

I look around hoping to find someone to save me from having this conversation. Just then, someone catches my eye. I squint to see Maddie practically sprinting our way.

"Hey guys!!" She says, all out of breath.

"Oh, hi Maddie. What's wrong?" Katie asks.

"Oh! I was just going to ask what are you going to wear to the bonfire tonight?"

"There having another one..?" We just had one not even two weeks ago.

"Yeah! The first one was nothing. We're playing our rival in football this weekend, you have to go!!" She was practically begging. I had nothing better to do and maybe I'll see Harry there. Harry. I have to go talk to him. Who knows what will go down at the bonfire if I don't go talk to him now. If I don't, we'll end up banging behind the dumpster.

Before I know it, my legs are chasing towards Harry. I wasn't really sure where they were going, but they were going somewhere, that's for sure. 

"Kat! Hey!"

Ugh, Liam always came at the wrong times. "Oh..hey..Liam"

"I just wanna say thanks again for leaving the party with me. It was probably the highlight of my night."

"Yeah..same. Hey listen, I gotta..uhh..finish speed walking..for, uh, gym!" I know I sounded like I just got off the crazy train but I had to go talk to him. My legs wouldn't stop until I saw her. Lou. She was with Harry in his car. There was probably no one I hated more than her. She sees me and gives me a wave and snickers. 

I get in my car and drive back to my dorm. I tried not to let the fact that he drove Lou bother me. He doesn't like her, I know he doesn't..at least I thought he doesn't. I try to shake the thought out of my head before I entered my room. I walk in to find Maddie and Katie scurrying around the room trying to get ready for tonight. The only motivation that makes me want to go is Harry. 

"Kat, you're not going to wear that are you?" I could hear the disgust in Maddie's voice. I was kind of use to it by now. She never liked my clothes. My outfit wasn't that bad. I was wearing legging, a sweatshirt, my black vans, and my hair was naturally down.

"I mean..I guess not."

"Kat! Can we give you a make over? Please please please!!!" Katie begged. I already let Maddie give me one before and it turned out pretty nice, so why not.

"Sure." I give her a warm smile and she claps with excitement. 

After my hair being pulled and shoved in and out of clothes, they're finally done. 

"Woah Kat, you look hot!!" Maddie said. I walk over to our mirror and take a good look at me. I was almost unrecognizable. My hair was straightened and it reach to my belly button. I was wearing a tight black shirt, a pair of jeans, and black heels. The black shirt was a little too tight up top because it was Katie's shirt and I'm more filled than her.

We headed to the bonfire and I started to get nervous. I still have no idea what I'm going to say to Harry. Hopefully it'll come to me in the moment. As soon as we get there, Maddie darts off to go find Niall. I'm left with Katie and we make small talk. I feel bad because I'm only half paying attention, half searching for Harry. I spot him up with the football players. He;s wearing a Letterman jacket, too. Harry plays football? Wow, I really knew nothing about him.

The bonfire kicks off and everyone's talking and having fun. I can't seem to find Harry anywhere. I walk around to find him when I see a handful of people coming over with a hose to try and put out the fire. They start spraying it on people and of course, I'm one of those people. I'm drenched in water and still haven't talked to Harry. This night couldn't get any worse.

I start to walk away to go find Katie or Maddie when someone pulls me away. It was too dark to see who while everyone was running around. We get into the parking lot and I can finally see the face. Harry. He takes me over behind the dumpster, I was not liking where this was going.

"Sorry I couldn't save you before you got wet."

"It's okay." He starts slowly kissing my neck.

"Harry..I, uh, wanna talk to you about something....I promised myself I would.."

"Would what?" Who was I kidding, I couldn't resist him.

"That I would go easy on you this time." He smiles and lays me down to kiss me. 

"Kat, you're beautiful."

"Yes, behind the dumpster in the dark." I giggle. "Hey..I uh..I wanna ask you something." He stops kissing me and looks at me straight in the eye. "Are we...together?"

Before he can answer, we're interrupted by a couple banging against the garbage can. We start walking through the parking lot. He still hasn't answered my question and I'm so angry at myself for even asking.

"So..I never answered your question.."

"What question?" I tried to play it off.

"About us. Look, Kat, I like you. I really, really like you. You don't care about anything or what anybody thinks. I wish I was like that...but...but i'm just not sure..if..i'm..ready, to, uh, be in a relationship. I completely understand if you wanna stop seeing each other, but I really like hanging out with you Kat."

I know I shouldn't be okay with it, but I like hanging out with him, too. Who knows, maybe he'll end up changing his mind.

"I'm cool with it." I give him a smile, but for some reason I want to break down and cry.

I go back to my dorm and tell Maddie what happened.

"Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I had to witness Ms. Swite and Mr. Harvey get it on behind the dumpster." I couldn't help but laugh even though the thought made me want to puke.

I'm really happy I'm friends with Maddie. She can always cheer me up. I just hope everything goes good with Harry.
