Hi! My name is Katy Ways and this is my story.
Chapter I
In early afternoon in October as school got out, Maggie and Cece,my two best friends, Larson(we call him Lark)and I were on our way to the mine-shaft deep in the woods behind my house.
When we got to the mine shaft we turned our flash lights on in the purpleing light. I brushed away the leaves that shelter the man hole cover. Lark and I sit down, cross-legged, on the cover facing each other. We grab the weal that locks the cover into place. We lean to our rights and throw our weight into getting the weal to turn. The steal creaks and moans then suddenly pops loose. We stood up and together lift the 120+ pound slab up and off the opening. One by one we descend in to the dark unlit shaft.
We climb down a rusty ladder. I went down first then Maggie, then Cece, then Lark, Lark slid a piece of cardboard covered with leaves over the opening so if hunters or my mother came looking for us the would never find us. I was leading because A, it was on my property, B, I have been going here since i was 7.
One day when i was 12 my dad brought me to the mine shaft.
"I will be right out I swear." Appa said urgently," I have to do this, a-alone. you cant follow me. don't even try. is you do..... you..... y-you might get hurt. I'm sorry Katy-kins but it's the only way to get Clementine back."
then he descended down into the mine shaft. I waited;30 minutes;1 hour; 3 hours; 4hours. and finally my mom came. but no salvation or hope or pleasure came with her.
see my parents were divorced and that night I was supposed to get dropped off at my mom's at 18:30(7:30) . I go to her house over the weekends and one week in the summer. I never liked my mom much. that's why I stay with my dad most; see I also got to choose who I stayed with when the got divorced. Obviously as you can see i chose to stay with my dad.
