RILEY’S P.O.V.
It had been weeks since our lives became so complicated, but things were beginning to calm down. Halloween was a day away and Liam would be arriving in the morning. I was so glad that I would see him. I felt that we had made a lot of progress, but nothing could be solved over the phone. I started cleaning up as soon as I got back from class that Wednesday. Piper was leaving that night to meet Harry in New York so they could fly to London together. She was really nervous, but Liam said Harry was so relieved to have her joining him. I was cleaning the kitchen when Cory walked out of his room for the first time that day.
“Morning.”
“It’s three in the afternoon, Cory.”
“Yeah, whatever.”
He had been so grumpy lately. It was really starting to irritate me.
“What’s up your ass?”
“Nothing, I’m just really excited to hang out with you and Liam all weekend.”
He rolled his eyes and collapsed on the couch. He told me he didn’t mind Liam coming, but I could tell he did. I didn’t want to be rude, but I was tempted to suggest him staying at his parents. I held my tongue, not wanting to start a fight. We got into enough arguments as it was. I ignored his attitude and continued to clean in silence for a while, but it was awkward.
“What are you doing for halloween?”
“Nothing.”
“What? You have to do something!”
“No, I don’t, Riley. I’ll probably stay and watch horror films by myself.”
I tried to mind my own business, but I couldn’t just let him sulk around all he time.
“Why don’t you come with us?”
“To some party?” He scoffed rudely. “No, thank you.”
I dropped the sponge into the sink and slam my hands on the table.
“What the fuck is your problem, Cory? I’ve been nothing but nice to you and for the past month, you’ve been an asshole. Not only to me; to everyone!”
He shook his head and sat up on the couch.
“If you think I’ve been an asshole, you have no idea what I’m capable of.”
What the hell did that mean?
“What the hell are you talking about?”
He shrugged me off.
“Never mind. i’m just going to go back to bed if you’re just going to yell.”
I stood there in total shock and watched him stalk away back to his dungeon of a room. His room had become disgusting. He did everything in there; ate, slept, and watched TV. Thats all he did anymore. His lights were always off and he never wanted company. I tried to ignore it all, but it was really upsetting. Piper walked in the door, about six bags in her hands.
“Woah, did you buy a new wardrobe?”
“Maybe.”
She giggled and dropped the bags on the floor. I was glad to see her so happy after the hell she had been going through. Nothing was settled with her case, but they had the first court date set for the middle of November. I wished it wouldn’t take so long, but the process is tedious.
“I know that we’re not going to London for a very happy occasion, but I’m still excited to go. I needed some stuff.”
“Needed.”
