Ghosts don't exist...Do they??

People often say," There is no such thing as ghosts". My oh so annoying twin disagrees, and so to prove that they do exist the two of us were standing at the entrance of a graveyard at 12am. I mean, is it even legal to drag someone to a graveyard in their pajamas!!

Lucas was grinning like he was watching a comedy show. I guess it must have been preety funny seeing your sister shiver in the cold December air.

" Let's do this." he said, still grinning like crazy. His enthusiasm was really getting on my nerves!

Sigh! What all us sisters do to keep the idiots we call brothers happy!

"Do I have a choice?" I asked, my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Nope...." he replied though it clearly was a rhetorical question.

He walked forward to open the the gate, before he applied even the required force, the old, rusty and imposing gate swung open all by itself with a creaking sound.

" I-i-it must be the wind..." croaked out Luke.

"Looks like someone is scaaared." I teased. "come on Lexi. This was a bad idea lets go back." he whispered.

But I was too curious to listen and so I walked forward. Just after entered, the gates swung close again.

I immediately turned back to see Lucas tiring to open the gate but to no avail.

Ï was filled with apprehention but put up a brave front. "Luke go home. I'll get out the other gate. Meet you at home." Saying so I walked off, deeper into the graveyard, not turning back to look if he listened.

As I walked the wind got considerably colder and a thick mist rolled in from the sea.

I headed towards the edge of the cliff on which the graveyard was located. That was where the other gate was.

There was a bike track along the edge of the cliff that lead to the beach and my house was a bare 5 minute walk from there. It was dangerous, especially at night, as a fall from there meant an appointment with the grim reaper due to the sharp rocks that looked up from the waters like jaws of Death. Suddenly, I could hear indistinct whispering around me. It was a rough voice which slowly got louder as if it was coming towards me. In the eerie atmosphere around me, that was not very reassuring let me tell you that!

Then, all of a sudden a shrill scream filled the frosty night air followed by the sound of rattling chains. Shivers went up my spine, shivers of fear. I didn't want to admit it but I was very scared, so scared that I could pee in my pants! The scratchy whispering sound of dry leaves rubbing against each other added to the spookiness of the atmosphere. Then as faith would have it, it started to rain. My only thought was to get out of there by I guess destiny had other plans. The brightness of the lightning pierced through the gloom lighting up the graveyard for just a few seconds. But those few seconds were enough. Standing just a few feet in front of me, blocking my path ahead, was a ghost. Translucent, milky white with chains all around him, he stood tall glowering at me. The silver blood flowing out of his various injuries, along with the weird smile and the creepy look in his eyes made me want to high-tail from there but I was frozen, and it was not just because of the cold. As the spirit kept walking, the air got colder and a blood-curling sensation filled my stomach, like a premonition of something horrible about to happen. The spirit opened his mouth and out came a hair-raising shriek which continued even after he closed his jaw. At first I was confused but then I realised that the sound was coming from me. Mr. Oh-so-creepy-ghost had the audacity to look amused after freaking me out of my minds!

Soon the echos of my scream disappeared into the night leaving behind a deathly silence. The ghost seemed to have come back to his senses and stalked forward. That was when my legs came back to life and I fled from there, running over and around gravestones. The prickling feeling at the back of my neck confirmed that the ghost was following me. As a result I ran blindly not knowing where I was going, until of course, the sound of the roaring waves informed me of my position. I was standing on the edge of the cliff, just a few centimeters away from death.

Then, BAAM!..and the dear ghost I tried to run away from appeared right in front of my face out of the air...literally! His face was mere inches away from mine. This caused me to cringe away from him and that was enough for me to lose my balance.

They say that before you die, scenes from your life flashes in your mind. Not true..at least not for me. Thank god! Who wants a rerun anyway?

My last thought was Lucas. He was my twin, my other half. This would be hardest for him. My heart went out for him, for the pain he would soon face...until it got crushed by those damned rocks.

Dying was not painfull atleast not after the initial shock of feeling the rocks cut through my chest and out the back, breaking my spine in the process. After that there was nothing, just numbness. I could feel the blood drain out of me taking with it my life and soul. I then closed my eyes.

When I opened them again, I was standing in the graveyard again but now it looked different..maybe because it was noon now. Or maybe it was now filled with people, people who I knew, all dressed in mourning. My eyes searched and finally found him. Lucas. I can guarantee that if I was alive, the look on his face would kill me again. I had never seen him like this before, not even when dad died. Never this..lifeless...

I walked up to him, my feet gliding oven the ground. No one could seen but they could certainly feel me. But then Lucas looked up and the expression on his face clearly showed that he could see me..only him and no one else.

" Lexi" he croaked out.

" Take care. For me. Please. I will be watching, always be right beside you bro." I whispered with a smile. My voice sounded more..angelic??

He gave a me a nod as the tears continued to flow. I turned about and glided off, the willowy dress that I didn't realize I was wearing swishing about my knees. This was the first time I wore a dress in my life..oops I meant death.
