Xavier turned to Fury. "Logan is correct. Let her out, she hasn't done anything."

"I-"

Yet again, Fury was interrupted.

"I'm back from my mission! What's going on? What'd I miss?"

"Barton! You're supposed to be on an extended undercover mission!" Fury's emotionless facade cracked as his shock showed through.

"Yeah, I was. It all went to hell in a hand-basket when one of the new guys in the mob got trigger happy and-" Clint interrupted himself, frowning when he saw what could be construed as a flicker of nervousness in Director Fury's eye. "What? What's going on?"

"We were just telling Director Fury that he IS going to free his newest prisoner. She doesn't want to harm anyone." Charles spoke up and Clint started at his lack of observance having not noticed the X-men in the room. Some spy and assassin he was.

"Hello Professor Xavier, X-men." He nodded by way of greeting. "Who is this prisoner?"

"She is a class 5 mutant, but she doesn't seem to have any inclination to harm anyone. We have heard her story and deemed her to be safe to let go, isn't that right Director?" All eyes turned to Fury and he sighed, knowing he'd have a fight on his hands if he tried to refuse. Eh, she was dying anyway, so she wouldn't be a viable threat much longer.

"Very well." He ground out. Turning to the lower level agent that had put her in the cell, he gave him the order to release her and escort her into the observation room (where they are).

Clint wanted more of an explanation but figured that she was going to get there soon, he could wait until then. Almost ten minutes later, they still hadn't arrived. Tony, the patient guy he was...n't, went to go and check. As he opened the door and stepped around the corner, he burst out laughing, making the occupants of the room wonder what he saw. When the agent walked in holding his bloody, and most probably broken nose, everyone else started snickering or trying to hide a smile.

That was the agent who so callously dumped her in the cell, calling her a freak. They all decided he deserved it.

"I guess no matter what species, mess with a woman, and you'll get your just comeuppance!" Tony chuckled.

"Damn right." Came a lilting voice from the door way.

Everyone looked up to see Lila standing there, understandably confused and angry, eye colour swirling, mesmerizing, never settling on a single colour.

Clint couldn't breath. Lila.

"Lila." He choked. Everyone now looked confused. Clint was not known for showing much emotion outside of sarcasm, scorn and stoicism, maybe mild annoyance or amusement, but never...pain.

His eyes ran over her wings, silver hair and purple eyes, filling with tears when he saw the golden pendant. She still wore it. "My shining light."

Her eyes widened.

"James."

I am extremely impatient for cliffhangers and I got a burst of muse, so I decided to post another chapter today. Please don't assume this is going to become a common thing, I only ever do this on good days, which don't come very often.

It's also to make up for the long waits. Sorry.

Enjoy! :D
