I woke up. Everything was different...everything was purple! My unicorn was no longer pink. My heart began to sink.
I've always hated purple with a passion. It doesn't belong in books or in fashion. My sister always liked it, although I don't really know why.
Perhaps if I shut my eyes, it would all go away! Surely that would work...then I could go play. I could pretend it never happened.
But no! Everything was still a stupid shade of purple; lilac and violet, light and dark. I put my unicorn in "park".
Over there! By the tree! I could see. The Holy Sock Tree. Someone had stolen all the colored socks...except for purple! The ones that give color to all. The crook had to be someone tall. But I was wrong.
There, under a giant beanstalk was a sheep...and the socks!
"Hello, Mr. Sheep. Why do you have our socks, if you know they're not cheap? In fact, they're irreplaceable, and we need them to keep the colors of the rainbow stable."
"Oh that's what these are? I was just looking for something to eat. I'm sorry...have a seat."
So I sat there in amazement, as the sheep went to get the socks. And I thought. This color is quite nice; better than sugar and spice.
I had pleasant thoughts that day, but I must say...I do not regret putting the socks back on the Holy Sock Tree. They belonged there for all to see...
As for my unicorn, she's glad to be pink...at least that's what I think. Although, I did have a change of heart. Now when I look at a rainbow, the purple is my favorite part.
