*Hunter's POV*
After Leila's friends left, she ran up to my room. "What did you do to Sydney? She acted like she was so uncomfortable after she came down from your room." She shouts. "I just made a joke about her wanting to kiss me. It was harmless." I say, laughing. "HUNTER! You cannot say things like that to my friends! That is not okay. And Hunter, for your information, most girls do not want to kiss you. Don't mess this up for yourself." Leila says, extremely angrily, then she runs downstairs. Okay then."WAKE UP, HONEY!" My mom yells. Ugh. Back to the place where I suck. I get out of bed and change into a black leather jacket and jeans. I will undoubtedly fail something today. Great. Why didn't I sign up for a music class or something? I could have passed something like that. "Hey, Hunter. Can you drive me to school today?" Leila asks, bursting into my thoughts. I just nod and jump up from my bed.
When I get there, I immediately spot Sydney getting out of a car with Jack. Maybe Jack likes Sydney instead of my sister. Why am I wondering about my sister's friends' lives? "Can you go apologize to Sydney? Please." Leila asks. "Fine." I scoff. I get out of the car and run to catch up to her. "Hey, Sydney, can I talk to you for a moment?" "I need to hurry to class, Hunter..." "It'll only take a second. I just wanted to apologize for yesterday..." She stares at me blankly. "No, you aren't. Did Leila put you up to this?"
She says as she begins to walk. I walk beside her. "You see right through me." I say. "You probably shouldn't be seen with me, right?" What does she mean by that? "You got me all wrong. I can be "seen" with whoever I want. What do you even mean?" I ask. "Well.. Simple.. You're so popular.. And I'm so... Not." "And? It's just a dumb status." I say. "Who knew that the most popular guy in school could feel that way.. I'll see you tonight, Hunter." "Bye Sydney."
Everything about her intrigues me. She doesn't treat me like I am royalty. Sure, she most definitely does not like me. I have never had anyone not like me, so why doesn't she?
I head to first period, Latin, which incidentally, I forgot I had with Sydney. I see her sitting in the back by herself. Tyler, my best friend, is who I usually sit by, but I decide to sit by her today. She does not even notice me at first until I speak. "Why don't you like me?" "It's not that- Well, to be totally honest, you are a jerk. You have practically every thing handed to you. You live a perfect life. You are failing and you still play football. I have worked hard to be where I am today. You are failing this class, but still you are here. That's it." She says. "I don't have everything handed to me and my life definitely isn't perfect." I think about my dad. "It doesn't matter. I am here to learn, not to socialize. Please let me do that." "Fine." I say.
I zone out during Mr. Hursney's lesson. I got bored, what do you want from me? I tap Sydney's arm with my pen. "What could you possibly want, Hunter?" She says at a whisper, slightly irritated. "I am bored. Duh." I say, stating the obvious. "I told you," she points to the board, "Learning here." She looks back at the board ignoring me, so I take this opportunity to stare at her. She truly is really pretty. Her hazel eyes shine. She looks very innocent. "You're staring, Daniels. Maybe it's you that wants to kiss me." She says, whispering proud of herself. I crack a smile. "Maybe.." I say, sarcastically. Her face flushed and she turns back to the lesson. Got her. The bells rings and I say, "See you tonight, Sydney," as she runs out of the door.
