Two Pieces of a Broken Heart

Authors POV:

Hours had passed, it was now 10pm and Rosaline was left alone cleaning the cafe and getting ready to go home. She had decided to take an extra shift, while Bella left right after her shift ended. Things between them were still a bit different. But once in a while Rosaline would come up with some topic and they would start a conversation from that. Then Bella asked Rosaline about Zayn.

*** 8 hours ago

“So Rosaline whats going on between you and Zayn.” Bella asked, while preparing a customers order. “You still haven't told me what happened at the masquerade party?”

“Nothing is “going on” between us Bella, and the party... Uh well nothing important happened.” Rosaline replied. She was beginning to get nervous and shaky.

Bella giggled, “It sure didn't seem as nothing while you two were kissing in the center of the dance floor.” Rosaline's mouth fell open, she was shocked and embarrassed. “What?... You thought I hadn't seen you... Oh my Rosaline I saw about everything that I needed to see. I saw how happy you looked while dancing with him. So are you two dating?”

“No Bella, we are not dating. Look I'm going to tell you something but you have to promise to not tell anyone okay?” Rosaline whispered. Bella quickly nodded.

“Okay, well when I first met Zayn it was here at the coffee shop that day you got sick and didn't come. He came off as a jerk and since that day we never got along. The day of the masquerade party I met a completely different side of him, the nice, caring Zayn and I fell in love but I didn't know it was him...” Rosaline took a deep breath.

“So when he went up on the stage and presented himself I was in shock and ran out of the ball room. At first I felt disgusted that I had fallen in love with him, but then I realized that he had been his true self that night... Since that night he's changed. But the problem is that I didn't reveal myself. It was time to go home and so I ran away.”

“So have you told him yet?” Bella asked and then turned to take give the customer his order.

“No...” Bella was about to yell at Rosaline, but she quickly continued explaining, “Because then I thought of how much he loved that girl he saw at the masquerade party and how disappointed he would be when he finds out its me.”

“Rose I'm sure he won't be disappointed, look...”

“I don't want to talk about this anymore. I've given it enough thought and I already made up my mind that I wouldn't tell him the truth. You made a promise not to tell anyone and I hope I can trust you again. I hope you can at least keep this promise.” Rosaline said angrily and Bella stayed silent.

Bella knew what Rosaline had meant by keeping that promise. She had already screwed up once and if she wanted to continue being friends with Rosaline she would have to keep her mouth shut.

*** Flashback ended

Rosaline expected some sort of phone call from Zayn, but got nothing. She felt stupid to think he would call, or even stop by to say hi. Just as she was finished cleaning Calvin, her boss, walked inside the cafe.

“Hey Rose, you're still here.” He walked towards her and gave her a friendly hug. Calvin had been like a father to her and he would always tell her stories while growing up about the memories he had with Rosaline's father.

“Yea, I was just about to leave.” Rosaline said while getting her bag from the kitchen.

“Oh well then go home and don't worry about closing I'll do that. I have some paper work to fill out so I'll just do it here. Now you run along and go home, its too late for you to be out this late.” He gave Rosaline a quick peck on the forehead and walked her out the cafe.
