❝Nothing exists without its opposite.❞ ― Chris Crutcher

prologue.

Arabella

I'm Bella, short for Arabella. I'm an ordinary nineteen-year-old - I'm dull, I'm a girl, sometimes with a hint of insolence and wit. I'm self-contained, yet I'm loud. I'm plain, but I can also be the life of a party.

My philosophy is rather complicated really. Yet it's simple - I want to avoid the 'norm'.

I want to make a mark on the world, one day. If majoring Criminology will be able to revolutionize the earth.

I like drawing on a rainy day, as I slump on my bed sketching aimless doodles while petting my Jack Russell, Nugget, occasionally between strokes of whatever medium I feel like using that day.

I like taking snapshots of the moments I want to remember forever. I also like pinning each of them on my wall, in a chronological fashion.

I do not like my roommate, Clarisse. I lied. She's awfully beautiful, talented and lovely. I love Clarisse. I like her philosophy.

But there is one thing that I don't like - the Attitude of the Regular Male (ARM). Sure, I like boys, but I don't like their philosophy sometimes. The "oh look there's a girl with big boobs, why don't I bang her" sort of philosophy.

And then, there's Liam Payne.

• Clarisse •

I've always thought of my life as ridiculously typical. Small group of friends in high school, played an instrument, maintained my average looks, worked hard for my grades, swum for recreation; it was pretty much just plain ordinary and uneventful.

It was almost boring.

So I guess you could say this is why now that I was an independent city girl, I tried to spice my life up as much as possible. Tired of my hair? Well I guess it was time to dye it bright red. Sick of playing the same type of songs on the guitar? I should definitely pick up some punk.

I even did this with my name - Clarisse was too proper, too prissy.

Clary, on the other hand, indicated uniqueness, boldness, and everything I strived to be.

However, there was one thing I refused to ever take a risk on, and that was my grades and my work.

You could say that I am a strange girl, a walking contradiction.

I tend to disagree.

I am my own person. I am focused on grades and work, but I know exactly what I want in life - I want to live, to live it to its fullest potential, everyday and every minute of my life.

My gorgeous roommate Bella would totally agree with this, and she's pretty damn honest.

So when a painfully beautiful, mysterious, and oh-so-dangerous stranger named Zayn Malik appears in my life.... What's a girl got to do?
