I knocked hard on the big wooden door. Crying hot tears down my face, anxiously looking back behind me to see if he had followed me. I tried to wipe my tears away, but they only came down faster. My shirt was ripped at the collar and torn everywhere else. I had no time to put on my shoes, so my feet felt cold against the concrete steps. The door opened as a tall brown haired woman stood there smiling, but when she looked down to look at me, her smile instantly faded. "I'm C-Calypso, my dad is i-in a bad m-mood, can I stay here for a w-while?" I choked out.
"Oh my goodness, yes, come inside." She said, opening the door wide for me to come in. I ran in the house, it smelled like the home I knew I would never have. To my left was a huge television mounted on the wall with pictures of a family in each of the frames, a husband, wife, and a little girl. Some pictures with just the little girl. They were all happy pictures. In front of the TV was dark brown coffee table with some crayon boxes and paper. On either side of the table were two couches. In front of me was a short hallway leading to some stairs. The woman looked at my face and clothes, then lead me towards the stairs. When I got to the top of the stairs, I saw a room at the end of the hallway. It had sparkly stickers and the letter "R" on it. I wanted to go in that room, but the lady pulled me to the right down a short hallway to a half cracked opened door. She pushed open the door wider so we could both go through, it was a marvelous marble bathroom! She picked me up and set me next to the sink as she went to the closet to get a towel. "Calypso, what happened to you?" She asked.
"Oh, umm.... I-I uhh... I fell," I said blankly, staring in awe at the bathroom. In the shower was some rubber duck and a bathmat. The lady lifted my chin up and dabbed the wet towel on my cheek, over a big cut.
"Are you sure? That's what happened?" She asked, I could see it in her eyes, she could tell I was lying.
"Yeah, that's all that happened," I replied forcing a fake smile on my face. The lady nodded and continued to clean me up. Next to me was a small square mirror, I looked terrible. My hair was sticking out all over, and on my body were scratches and bruises. When the lady was done, she brought me a bright blue shirt with some black leggings.
"Here put these clothes on," She told me, then handed me the clean clothes. I put them on and walked out of the of the bathroom. I went back to where I saw the room, and walked over pushing the door open slowly. The room was a light blue with pictures of animals scattered across the walls. In the corner was a small twin-size bed, and in the other corner was a little girl reading a book. She had shiny dark brown hair and dark brown eyes. She looked up and stared at me for a moment with a confused look on her face then finally asked, "What are you doing in my room?"
"Oh, sorry, I didn't mean-," I started to go towards the door, but she interjected.
"No," a big smile appeared on her face, "stay." She placed her book and the ground next to her and scooted over to make room for me. I walked over and sat next to her.
"I'm Rowan," she introduced, giving me a big hug.
"I'm Calypso," I said laughing. From that moment on, I knew we would be best friends.
