Lazily strolling into the cafeteria, Lady idly slid into her seat at an empty lunch table. She was feeling a little light headed. Pulling out her insulin pump, she saw that her blood sugar was running low at 93. Hannah was the one to give her lunch on most days. She hoped that Hannah would show up soon. Putting her insulin away, she looked up when a tousled head of brown hair caught her attention. It was the guy from yesterday. He was exiting the cafeteria with his hands stuffed in his leather jacket. His name was Luke . He showed up to class yesterday, but they sat on completely opposite ends of each other.

Lady looked a few tables ahead of her to find Hannah sitting with her soccer friends. She caught her eye and Hannah quickly excused herself from the table before making her way to Lady with her lunch bag in hand.

"Sorry. I promised the girls I'd sit with them." She said, pulling out a sandwich from her bag and handing it Lady. "Mom made turkey today."

Hannah shared her lunch with Lady everyday with the knowledge of her present living condition. Her mom usually made sandwiches for the both of them. Hannah's family didn't know about Lady's torturous life at home. Her mom had questioned Lady about her parents before, and talked about meeting them, but she always brushed it off and never let the conversation last before going into another topic. Hannah had tried to talk Lady into telling someone about the events occurring at home, but she wouldn't even consider the option. Hannah wasn't sure if it was out of fear, or if she felt it was her fault, or if she was just too loyal to her family to turn them in. It didn't make much sense, but it was her choice.

The truth was, it wasn't that Lady didn't want them to leave or go to jail, but there were just too many outcomes. Many of which could go wrong. Her father was a police officer, which he could use to his advantage, making everyone believe that she was lying, or put fake evidence against her to make it look like she was the one in the wrong. If that didn't happen, then he could possibly manage to get out if the situation with no sentences put against him and help Mom and Milo get out of it somehow, or at least soften their penalty. The possibilities were highly unlikely in Lady's mind, but the risk was still there, and she was not willing to take it.

She thanked Hannah for the sandwich before eating. Hannah's mom made the best sandwiches.

"So," Hannah said with a smile. "how are you feeling about the date tonight? Happy? Nervous? Excited?"

"None of the above. I am feeling exhausted, and it hasn't even started yet. Do I really need to go? Can't you attend your date without me?"

"It's our date, so stop with your pity partying and get excited. Your guy is totally hot. And honestly, if I had spotted him first, I would have dated him instead. I haven't met him, but trust me - he's worth it. Beach blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, plump pouty lips, tanned skin, and abs - rock hard. You won't regret going. Trust me."

"I thought you said they were twins?"

"Duh. That's how I know how hot he's going to be. And how I know that he is exactly your type."

Lady rolled her eyes with an airy laugh. "And what exactly is my type?"

Hannah looked at her with gleaming eyes. "Smart, sexy, rich, and classy."

After a few more words, Hannah went back to the other table with her soccer friends while Lady sat finishing her sandwich. Lunch was soon to end, and she left for class.
