There were only about 30 of us left. Ever since the attack everyone has been quiet. Everyone was hungry. We HAD to leave soon.
I got up to find Jason. I found him sitting with his friend Azul in the corner. "Hey Jason, I think we need to leave. We are all hungry and it's not safe here." I told him.
"Hate it break it to you cuz.... We don't really have anywhere to go." Jason replied. He had a good point.
"Well, we need to come up with a plan. Soon." I told him. "So, what do you think we should do?"
Jason pondered for a moment before saying, "Okay, we have instruments to use as weapons. Not the best, but they will work."
"Wait! There's a bus just outside the band hall. We can use that for shelter." Azul blurted.
"Yes! That should work great. Thing is... No one really knows how to drive." I replied. "OH!" I reached into my pocket and pulled out the knife.
Azul looked surprised then realized it used to be my dad's and calmed down.
"Okay, anyway. I don't know how to drive, but I'm sure someone will be able to figure it out. The bus is probably our best choice for now. We need to make sure there's going to be no walkers in the way. We need everyone to have something to defend themselves." Jason said.
"Sounds good to me." I replied.
A fraction of a second after I said that, there was a loud bang on the door leading outside.
"What the-" Azul started to say before there was another loud bang.
I started walking over there with Jason when the door burst open.
Zachary walked in.
"Zach!" I ran and hugged him. He hugged me back, but quickly let go.
"Are you okay? Are you but? Scratched?" He said.
"No, I'm fine. Not everyone is though...."
He pushed by me and started checking everyone else. As he saw all the dead bodies he gasped.
"How did this happen?" He asked.
"Some of the infected snuck in through the back door. Luckily, we were able to take them. Not everyone made it, though."
He slowly nodded. "And you two took all of them down? How many were there?"
"Only about 7." Azul said. He nodded again.
"Zach?" Jason said, "How did you get here so fast?"
As Zachary walked back to us he just shook his head.
"Where's mom?" I asked. I feared the answer. The moment I asked that I regret it.
Zachary led me away from the small group. I could already feel the tears coming.
"Look, Mandi. When you left the house I had no idea what was going on. I figured out when mom came back from work. She had been at the hospital and was finally able to come home. One of the patients ended up biting her. They let her come home because of it. Once she got home she went straight to bed." I could see the tears in his eyes. That made me start to bawl. "And..... She came at me a few minutes later." He grabbed me and held tight. He didn't need to finish. I held onto him too. The tears were nonstop. For both of us.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
