Carmen POV

The sound of snarling flutters through my ears. I barely touch the mockingjay pin before I see them. Wolves that have a very familiarity to them. As I peer closer, I see why. These are the tributes that I have killed.

With the leader of the pack that appears to be a Capitol boy, there are another seven. Starting of with Kimberley. She has blood on her snout and her dark eyes pierce through my skin and into my heart. Behind her is Doe and Thimble's wolf forms. They look just like before. Intimidating. Beside them is Serene. I killed her when she attacked us with a spear. That's where Crystal lost her sword. I used it to stab her straight into the heart. Two more are the ones that I killed in District Ten as they were too close to me with their knives and spears. They snarl angrily towards me and threaten to attack. As I look over to all of them, guilt soars through my heart. I can't kill them again. I just can't.

With the mutts barking and snarling ferociously, I smile at them and mutter,

"Get me. Take revenge. Kill me."

Just as I hear their footsteps charge straight at me, I close my eyes and await my death.

Crystal POV

I followed Carmen and walked past everything. The assumed poisoned food. The holograms. Everything. Just as I catch up to her, I see them. The mutts. I hide behind some stones lying on the ground, stacked up into a neat pile.

With one look, I know that these mutts are to hit Carmen. Hit her hard with guilt, sorrow and pain. Just like the Gamemakers have planned if, Carmen is stumped. She looks at them sorrowfully before the snarling gets louder. She mutters,

"Get me. Take revenge. Kill me."

After hearing this, the mutts seem to have listened to her commands. They inch forward. Just as I hope Carmen is fooling them, my hope is shattered as I see her close her eyes. She've given up her will to live, alright. She's a goner if I don't save her.

I prepare my knives. They are ready to go. Just as the first one aims at her heart, I shoot it. The knife soars through the air and hits the mutt right in the heart. Dead. The others pounce on me. I struggle hard but I still fend off the attack, leaving one left.Just as Carmen opens her eyes, she sees the horrible truth. A mutt has bitten on my shoulder. The exact same one that got injured. That bite sends pain up my spine so severe that I scream in terror. Just as the mutt lunges for the death bite, it drops to the ground. Dead. I turn to see that only an arrow could have done this. Carmen killed it.

Carmen is on the ground, with tears lined up on her eyes, threatening to spill over any minute. She blinks them away though. I retrieve her arrow but she snaps it. It breaks into two and she discards it.

She silently steps back to our camp. I don't question anything though. Lux looks extremely worried. He doesn't know anything about this attack except that my shoulder is bleeding.

Carmen heals up from the attack and proceeds to help dress my wound. She bandages it and goes back to a tree and tries to sleep. I devote myself to guarding for the night. In the middle though, I can hear Carmen thrashing on that tree. She's fighting the nightmares. She's killed 8. Those 8 came to take revenge. But I saved her. She probably thought that with her dead, she wouldn't be so scared. She'll be save and sound in Heaven. Without worries.

At the break of dawn, she gets up though. She grabs her backpack and opens it and snacks on the dried fruit. She finds water in the Capitol in a crystal-clear stream and purifies it with the iodine. She drinks that and eats her share before going to her slumber. Just as she walks back, I see her open her mouth for the first time since the encounter and say,

"Crystal, thank you."
