Do you ever see two Pokémon that look alike? For example wooper and lickylicky both have a WiFi symbol on their bellies, and they are from the same region.
My theories are that the first generation ghost line of evolution possess objects and other Pokémon.
This theory is about Gengar and Crobat.

Gengar
First look at their colors both purple. Then look at there body shape. Same right?. Their ears and eye shapes are the same. The mouths are the same just flipped upside down. The spikes on crobat's wings match gengar's fingers and feet.
Now let's take zubat and golbat the pre-evolved form of crobat.

Golbat
So they both look nothing like crobat. Both are blue, have big mouths, and have legs. They have so many differences that they can't be counted. The golbat doesn't even evolve the same way as zubat to golbat. The only thing the same is the typing...
Which to say all of the four pokemon are poison types. To make things even more coincidental is that zubat and golbat are from Kanto along with Gengar, but Crobat is from Johto right next to Kanto.
So this is a very hard and stupid summary or theory but I think that gengar possesses golbat, they evolve into crobat, and fly to Kanto.
I know it sounds stupid but it's up to you to believe.
