“I c-can’t believe she’e gone. How will we survive year 12 without her, Bridie?” Ivory asked with a lost look on her face.
“I d-d-don’t know, she was our best friend.” I replied, while the tears fell constantly down my face.
“Beep-Beep”, my phone buzzed from my pocket. I fished it out and looked at the caller ID.
“It’s an unknown number.”
“Read It out!” Ivory said urgently.
“It says, “One down, only two left, will her past hurt you? Xx”. What the Hell.” I said, barely containing my annoyance at the person who thought it would be funny to send this text to me.
“Who the hell would send this crap right after Eliza d-.” Ivory cut off abruptly not wanting to face the truth. I totally understood how she felt. Just as the police started moving away from Lillywood’s central park, where Eliza’s body was, my mother started towards Ivory and I.
“Come on girls, I don’t think you want to see the rest of this.” My mum said as she ushered away. To be honest, I didn’t want to see the rest of it.
Waking up on Monday was like waking up from a really bad dream, but the nightmare continued as soon as I woke up. School. The first day of Year 12 and Ivory and I had to face it on our own.
“Beep-Beep”, before I even looked down I knew who it would be. Ivory always messaged me before school asking what time I would be at her house to pick her up. I was the only one out of us who had a car. I sent a quick reply and started the process of getting up to go to school.
Walking into school was like walking into a Pity Party. It hadn’t taken long for the news of Saturdays events to spread, I mean, half of the town was at Central Park when Eliza was discovered. Ivory and I could feel multiple pairs of eyes on us and hear the occasional whisper saying “...those are the girls....”. All of our classes were the same, even the teachers sighed when they got to our names during roll-call. By the end of the day Ivory and I couldn’t wait to get out of there. As the final bell rang, I was glad to get out of there and I could see on Ivory’s face that she was too. When we came together and started walking out our phones beeped in union. This time I recognized the number. Ivory read it out this time.
“Poor, poor girls, which one next? Xx”
“Who is this?!?” I shouted while scanning the area around us for possible culprits, but almost everyone I could see was on their phones.
“Who could of hated us this much?” Ivory asked sounding shocked, but determined to find the person responsible for it. How will we survive this year?
The entire week was continuos pity party for us. I was glad when the weekend rolled around and the Lillywood Show was on. Every year there was a theme and this year it was scary. Ivory and I were going all out this year, we were going as twins who were possessed. We were disguising ourselves so that no - body recognized who we were. Eliza’s death was still haunting my dreams but we had to enjoy senior year that is how she would of wanted it.
Scanning the show grounds for a hide out for us to sit down and relax, Ivory and I noticed a masked figure, wearing a black hood, staring straight at us.
“Come on, Let’s get away from that person is freaking me out.” Ivory said with a shaky voice. We found a gap in between rides and sneaked through there. Behind the rides there was a large between the fence and the ride. We sat down and pulled out our coke and fairy floss that we had brought earlier.
“Jeez, who do you think that person was, they sure grasped the theme of scariness with both hands, didn’t they?” I said with a bit of worry in my voice.
“Yeah, th-”. I didn’t hear the rest of what Ivory said because all I could feel and hear was the knife at my throat and my scream.
I only screamed for a second because as soon as I started a hand clamped over my mouth.
“You will do as I say Ivory, or my knife might just slip.” The unknown attacker said. I recognized the voice as the girl that always had the right answer in class.
“Alison. But why?” I said with shock and fear. Ivory was standing and looking like she was ready to fight but I knew, from a life time of friendship, that she is scared to death.
“I’m sure you remember all the mean comments that Eliza flicked around about me, four years I’ve had to put up with her, but not any more.” Alison replied, with a lot of bitterness in her tone. I could feel my phone and I could only just reach it without Alison noticing. I flipped it out and rang the police. Alison was too focused on Ivory to notice me slip my phone back into my pocket without her noticing. I had full faith in myself that I had dialed the right number, I mean, the teachers had never caught me before, and all of my messages had made sense. “Now Ivory, you will take out your phone and message every one in your contacts explaining how you and Bridie just couldn’t stand Eliza anymore and she had it coming to her, or Bridie might just go, the same way that Eliza did.” Alison said threateningly. I prayed to God that my call had worked and that the police would be here any second. I heard the wailing of sirens and I felt Alison tense, meaning that she heard them to. Alison’s arms relaxed and she said “If they’re coming here they won’t find you, who in their right mind would look behind the Ferris Wheel.” I hoped that the police were still on the line and heard where we were. Ivory had taken out and started typing the text.
“WAIT!” I shouted, “DON’T DO IT!”
“I have to Bridie she’ll kill you” Ivory’s voice was barely audible, she was scared out of her skin. I hoped that me stalling was enough time for the police to have gotten in the show grounds.
Alison read the text that Ivory would send to all of her contacts. “Good now send that and the police will come and arrest you, instead of me, for Eliza’s murder.” Alison said with a smirk on her face.
“But we’ll still no who it was.” Ivory replied. I could hear voices shouting from not far away.
“What if the police find out it as you, Alison?” I asked
“They won’t, as soon as the Police get Ivory it will be case closed.” She replied gleefully. I could hear the voices clearly now but Alison hadn’t realized as she was to happy with herself. I could hear the Police coming through the gap and Alison had just realized who it was. “You little -,” Alison started before the Head of Lillywood police, Leading Senior Constable Geofferson, arrested her. He spoke to her the words that no criminal wants to hear.
“Alison Carter, you are under arrest for the murder of Elizabeth Diamond and the attempted murder of Bridie Spot.” I could feel my relief building. This crazy person would be locked away and she wouldn’t bother Ivory or I again.
The next week at school was basically the same as the first but this time everyone treated us like we were wrapped in bubble wrap. Alison was sentenced to a life time in jail and we were free to have a good year at Lillywood High School. Eliza’s murder still abused me at night but not so much now that we have discovered her murderer.
