Nighttime had fallen. Everyone was asleep. All except for Lore. He crept through the house to Teagen's room. Lore pushed open the door and stood next to Teagen's bed. He tapped her shoulder.
"Teagen?" he said softly.
She didn't wake.
"Teagen." he said a bit louder as he shook her arm.
She opened her eyes with a dazed and tired look on her face. "What...do you want." she said not lifting her head from the pillow.
"I was wondering.....um.......if you..."
"Just say it!" Teagen said whispering as loudly as it was possible.
"ARE LEAVING US TO GO WITH MR. GALLOWS TOMORROW!" he said quickly.
Teagen's eyes widened as she lifted her head off the pillow.
"How do you know about that!?"
"I...heard you on the phone yesterday when I left my room to get a glass of water." he said.
"I must have not noticed you."  Teagen mumbled.
"But are you really leaving?"  Lore said with a sadness in his voice.
"I am, but I have no choice. I could either run away, which I would have a hard time hiding and surviving or....I could just go without the hardships." Teagen said.
"But....but...I will miss you." Lore said, tears filling his eyes. "You are my sister."
"I am not your sister. How could you miss me if I am not even real. I am a machine. Don't I scare you?"
"You are real to me!" he said loudly.
Teagen began to cry even though there was a smile on her face. Tears of joy and sadness. She hugged Lore. He leaned his head on her shoulder.
"You are a good big sister. I won't forget you."
He lifted himself and walked towards the door, but before he left he asked:
"Does anyone else know you are leaving?"
"No." Teagen responded. "And let's keep it that way."
Lore left the room and returned to his own.
They truly care for me,
Teagen thought.
