Erick’s POV

I yawned and sat up, rubbing my eyes. I stood up and threw on some clothes and immediately walked to Lana’s room.

I felt incredibly bad for her. Obviously, something was going on. And since I was to somehow to marry her, I needed to protect her. She didn’t deserve to feel the way she did. She never did.

I knocked on her bedroom door. “Lana?”

No answer.

I pushed the door open a crack and peeked my head in. “Lana?”

There was no movement in the room. My heart sped up as I realized she wasn’t in her bed. I sighed and told myself everything was okay. So what? She wasn’t in her room, she might be in the kitchen or around town.

I walked to the kitchen and immediately saw the small note lying on the counter. I hurried to the counter and picked up the note, reading it with pure worry.

After finishing it, I crumpled it up and tossed on the counter. Running my hands through my hair, I let out a frustrated groan.

Then anger overtook me. I flipped the kitchen table over and threw a glass at the wall. I let out a string of curses and shifted, then burst out the door, towards the woods.

Why did she always do this? I always have to end up working my ass off to save her ass. I let out a earsplitting roar and sped up my pace as I broke through the trees.

This is how she’s going to get herself killed, and I promised her father that I would never, ever let that happen, even if the prophecy demanded it. My parents promised both her parents that I would do my best to protect this girl. Why did I really care now? Because I had grown so close to her, that I would kill myself if anything ever happened to her on my watch. I had to save her… again.

It was my duty, and it was my destiny.

Then I halted. Archer.

He was gone too, wasn’t he. That ass is going to get Lana killed. He’s a traitor, but I was strictly unable to tell her any of this. Only tell her not to do certain things, the Binding Code made us unable to tell Lana anything about the prophecy, literally.

Everyone who ever laid eyes or was told about the prophecy was forced to do the Binding Spell which made all of them unable to say anything about the prophecy to anyone except those who already know about it. At least until the prophecy was fulfilled, then the Binding Code will be broken.

But I didn’t want that to happen, because then she would be dead. It was terrible, because I wanted the prophecy to be broken so all Abed would be freed, but at the same time, I don’t want Lana to die.

And the worst part was, Lucinda wanted it to happen. In fact, she encouraged it. And I didn’t know why everyone was okay with Lana dying.

Well, I wouldn’t allow it. I wouldn’t risk a shifter’s life just so our race could possibly be saved from the whole shifter community.

No, there had to be another way.

Quinn’s POV

“And you know for certain that Lana has these powers?” I confirmed.

The shifter man named Shawn, nodded. “Completely certain.”

I nodded. “Well, good. We need your knowledge, so it would be sufficient if you stayed with us until we find her and bring her back.”

“And my pay?”

I waved my hand. “Yes, yes, yes. You will be paid in full after the job is done and will not be reported. Now, tell me more.”
