Thomas' POV:

We all gathered here to learn about my past. Kai and Paul sat on the floor sharing a bowl of popcorn watching Mandy yell at Ty for grabbing my wrist so firmly. These are the people I call friends who barely know my past. They know I was moved to this school when I was five, but from there I am an enigma. Most people who know me wouldn't be able to tell you anything about me from age five to whenever they met me. "So I bet all of you are curious as to why I called you all here today, right?"

I could hear the crickets. Only re-established by Kai laughing. There was a small knock on the door. I opened it to reveal a familiar face. Jenna's brown eyes were filled with relief when she saw me. "Oh wonderful I've finally found your cabin. Kai Mentioned that he would be stopping by. I need to speak to him. This is rather important though." Kai lightly pushed me out of the way. "Mother is, well, how do I put this politely?"

Kai rolled his eyes. "You know you can drop the act? Around here money doesn't mean crap. Honestly, you can talk how you want to around here."

Jenna poked him in the nose. "It is recommended that you keep your opinion to yourself. You left when you were 11 I stayed for years being raised as a proper lady. Now back to the point Mother is furious that I left saying that you coerced me into abandoning my family and I requesting that I return home immediately and you be disciplined. The admissions director informed her on the situation and she is now attempting to press charges on the school for kidnapping."

Paul stood up and pushed me out of the way. He stood next to Kai for a moment kissed him on the forehead and smiled his usual small subtle smile. "It happens a lot everything will be fine. Jenna why don't you join us Thomas was just about to tell us all a story. Kai has told me you like them quite a bit."

Well, now there is an extra person for story time. "The story starts about 12 years ago. After my parents passed away I was brought here. The neighbors realized I had powers very soon, I mean how often is it a little kid has an owl follow them around. When I got here the school had been open for about 3 years. They still hadn't quiet set up for little kids. So They paired me up with a guard to act as my parent and raise me for a little while."

His name was Absalom. He was born and raised in Palestine and he taught me to speak and read Hebrew. He was an older man with a large smile and sad eyes. He originally came to the school with his daughter who could grow flowers. His daughter was a beautiful young woman he kept pictures of her all over the house. He refused to take them down even after she died. He simply flipped them around. His way of remembering her was filling the house with flowers. Her favorite were pink hydrangeas. He had them sitting in every corner of the house.  The school originally let parents live on campus with their students. The school realized that it wasn't such a great idea and started sending the parents back. Some parents who refused to leave were recruited as guards. Absalom was one who stayed then his daughter passed on and he didn't have anywhere else to go. I was to young to live on my own and since he was now childless it was a natural match.

So we ended up living together. I'm not gonna act like it was all rainbows and butterflies but it was pretty great. He cooked his traditional meals every night and taught me how to handle a gun. I spent quiet a bit of time researching the guards. So after about a two years of living with me he figured out how much I disliked meat so he actually went vegetarian with me. We spent everyday together. I would go to school, come home, do my homework, and he'd teach me about things in the school. I learned about all of the tools and tactics the guards used. Without him I would never know that all of their weapons are painless unless you have a different kind of power. For whatever reason it doesn't affect me.

When I turned 11 that's when a student tried to escape. She was actually a friend of mine. She could affect the gravity of objects. One day she tried to escape by creating a bubble of low gravity so she could hop over the fence. Well Absalom was one of the guards that responded. She did not want to stay at the school any longer. She wanted to go home and she didn't care who she hurt as long as she left. Well, lets say that a human body does not handle it's gravity being multiplied very well.

It was as expected that at 11 I didn't handle his death well. He was the third parent I had lost. The school was kind enough to move me into my own cabin and send one of the older students to check on me everyday to make sure I didn't starve or burn down my new home. One girl checked on me more often then the rest, Kathleen. She still comes and feeds all my animals. When I was younger she would help me with my history homework by using her sand to actually act out parts of it. Not to long after that I met Kai then Ty and finally I met Mandy.

Jenna tilted her head, obviously confused about something. Slowly she raised her hand. I pointed at her. "So, how did Absalom's daughter pass away?"

He never really wanted to discuss it with me. I heard him saying how it happened one day. "He always wanted to keep scary stuff like this from me, but his daughter Elisheba died at the hands of another student. She was growing some pink hydrangeas and a boy decided to try and prank her by cutting off some of her flowers when he accidentally misfired and kinda cut her head off." Everyone cringed. Yeah I kinda saw that part coming. "She died how she lived though. She was growing flowers to give to everyone for valentines day. Now anytime I see pink hydrangeas it makes me think about Absalom and his daughter and how I want to make them proud and be a good person."
