Amanda stepped into her grandma's white farmhouse. She had received a call earlier that day that Ruby, her grandma, needed her help with moving some things from the attic to the garage.

"Grandma?" She called out softly. She took quiet steps around the house, listening for any sign of Ruby. 'Maybe she's in the garage.' She thought. Just as she turned to go to the garage, she heard someone walking in the attic. "Grandma is that you?" She called up.

She went to the attic steps and walked up. 'Why hadn't she replied?' She thought, concerned. Even though Ruby was an older woman, she had spectacular hearing.

The door to the attic was closed so she reached out her hand and wrapped her fingers around the door knob. She turned it slowly and entered the small cramped room. The first thing that caught her eye was a human sized scarecrow laying in a pink and green striped chair. 'wow he looks creepy.' She thought wearily.

"Grandma are you in here?" When she heard no response she looked around, looking for any sign of her beloved grandma. She noticed one of her shoes behind a huge box. She slipped her phone from her pocket. Amanda had a bad feeling as she crept up to the box, she moved it aside and released a blood curdling screamed. Her phone dropped from her hand.

There was her grandma with blood all around her. Huge gashing cuts covered her once wrinkling soft face. Amanda whipped around, wanting to get away from the sight and the stench of blood, but something blocked her path. It was the Scarecrow with blue overalls on and a maroon shirt. A menacing hook shined in his hand. Straw stuck out from his clothes and his eyes glowed a horrid blood colored red.

His mouth turned into a frightening smirk as he stepped toward her with the hook in his hand. Amanda screamed and desperately looked for a way out. She noticed a window but knew that was only a suicide mission. 'I'm going to die,' She thought in fear.

"For too damn long I've been locked in that chest. 100 slow years. That old hag didn't know that death was the price of picking that lock." The Scarecrows deep rough voice rang through Amanda, chilling her to the bone. She was losing hope as she took one last look around the room for an escape. Then she saw her answer. A lighter laid on the table.

She quickly moved her eyes back to the scarecrow before he noticed the simple lighter that would save her life. The scarecrow suddenly charged at her, his hook drew back, ready to strike her down. She stood still, then just as he was about to reach her, she quickly dodged him.

He let out a horrid roar as he whirled back around. His eyes glowed darker.

Amanda quickly swiped the lighter, holding it so tight that her knuckles turned white. She hid it the best she could, not wanting him to see her escape.

"Time to die!" He screamed then he laughed a deep terrifying laugh. Amanda turned her back to him, she heard him starting to charge once more. She started the lighter then before he reached her she turned back around and crouched down low. The scarecrow was too late as he swung blindly where Amanda's head used to be. She reached up, the lighter's flame grazing the straw hanging from his side.  That was all it took before he caught fire, the flames spread over him quickly as he cursed Amanda loudly.

"Nooooo!! you will regret this you son of a bi-" He didn't have the chance to finish as Amanda grabbed a broom and knocked him down with all her strength. He was in a pile on the ground, turning to ash. Amanda watched as the last of him incinerated. Tears streamed down her cheek as she quickly left the attic. She ran to the house phone and called the cops.

She knew that she was extremely lucky and that she would forever miss her grandma. She silently vowed to give Ruby a proper funeral and burial.
