"No ways ma! I'm not gonna wear this for vidhushi dee's wedding!" I cribbed like a two year old, looking at the ancient saari my mom held, I knew she wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Do you want to attend vidhushi's marriage or not?" My mom, anju agarwal asked me, cocking up an eyebrow.
"Yes I do! Why can't I wear jeans and a t-shirt to her wedding! Please ma, please, please, please?" I fluttered my eyelashes and made the most cutest puppy face I could.
"Sanyukta agarwal, you are 21 years old. I'm not taking no for an answer. Vidhushi ki shaadi mein aana hai to yahi pehnna padega." My mom hanged the saari carefully in my almirah and disappeared in the kitchen.
'Oh god! Apko konsa badla lena hai mere se? Ye kese ki cheez dedi pehn ne ko?' I said, raising my eyes to the ceiling, talking to god.
"Sanyukta, 10 minute mein saari leke aaja. I want to teach you to tie it." Anju called from the hall. Rolling my eyes I picked up that Indian attire and went to learn to tie this ridiculous Indian thing.
After a struggle of half an hour I had finally draped a red and green saari around my frame. I wasn't that sleek zero figure model or anything. I was fit and fine, had pair of 32 teeth, two eyes and a razor sharp tongue (as my professors say). I looked like any other 21 year old normal looking college girl, though to my mom I was the prettiest the girl the whole world.
After tying saari my mom told me that she would do some light make up. Okay, the saari was fine but make up! I had to escape this disaster some how! I silently prayed for some miracle to happen and all the make up of the house to disappear to an unknown land and puff! There it is! All the eye-liners, mascara's and other spooky stuff of the world in my mom's dressing table.
Any other girl would love to get dolled up. I got goose bumps by the name of make up. No, I ain't a tom boy, but make up makes you look like a piece of art, completely fake.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice when my mom put all those horrible things on my face and-lo! I stood in front of the large mirror, looking at myself.
"Is this me?" The words skipped my mouth before I knew it. Oh well, I never knew I, I out of all the women in the world could look...what did you say..pretty! Yes, pretty undoubtedly. My mother was a magician. No doubting that now. I stood in front of the mirror gawking at myself.
"Bhot sundar lag rahi ho! Dekhna vidhushi ki shaadi pe kitne rishte aate hain tere liye." My mom said joyfully.
I smiled looking at her, she looked beautiful when she smiled. Then I replayed the last line again. I felt the world slipping under my feet. Oh my god. This is why they want me to go to this wedding wearing this ridiculous outfit! Marriage! Me?! No way. This can't be happening.
Phew!! So that was the start of my book. I hope you all like it. Please vote and comment, thank you!
