Morning light came through the windows of Teagen's room. She woke slowly and got dressed into a dark green top and black jeans. She slipped on a grey sweater and a necklace with an aquamarine stone on a black leather cord. That necklace was good luck to Teagen. She couldn't remember a time when she didn't have it.
Teagen left her room. She approached the front door and turned round to take one last look at the cozy townhouse. She took a deep breath as she went to open the door to leave. Her hands shook and the door creaked as Teagen opened it.
"Goodbye....", she whispered sadly.
Teagen started on her way. She passed through her familiar city and entered to the next. Teagen arrived at the front of the glass building. This would be her new home; or the better term; her prison.
She went through the sliding glass doors and to the elevator. She stepped inside, trying to stop her heavy breathing. Her delicate finger touched the button for the thirteenth floor. The elevator lightly shook as it began its ascend. Teagen pressed her hand to her mouth as she shifted back and forth. The last ding of the elevator came. It's sound filled Teagen's head with more dread then she ever felt before.
She stepped out to see Mr. Gallows; his mouth curved into a smile.
"Teagen.", he said.
Teagen looked at the floor, her face melancholy.
"My dear girl. Why are you so sad. You should be happy."
Teagen didn't respond or look up from the floor.
"Fine, be that way. I don't care. I just thought you would be happy to see your father."
Teagen turned round.
"Daddy?...."
"He is down on the lower floor."
Teagen went to the elevator to go down to see him.
"No. Don't bother him. He is working very hard.", Mr. Gallows said.
She returned to the center of the room where she stood before.
"You will have a chance to see him later. First I have to prepare you for work."
Teagen nodded slowly. Her old life was officially over. A new life was beginning.
