Obsession

"You can't really be serious," Flick's voice carried disbelief "seriously?"

I looked back at him and said with a sigh of annoyance "Why cant I, is there something wrong with me or something?"

"Nah man, you've been my friend since we we're three. Nothing's wrong with you," Flick paused for a second before continuing "It's just that you might be a tad bit obsessed with her."

He shouldn't have said that. You know when you know something about yourself but don't quite believe it until someone says it to you? Well Flick just said I'm obsessed with Lauren, I'm not obsessed.

"I'm not obsessed." I told both him and myself.

"You've been infatuated with her ever since she moved here five years ago." Flick really was starting to get on my nerves now.

"We're done talking about this now," I told him "let's just get to school. Ok?"

Flick, for once, shut his mouth and let the subject dropped. Flick and I have been walking to school since freshmen year, it was the closest our school has ever been to our homes and the chance to not take the bus was a god send.

"How do you think this year will go," Flick asked. If there's one thing vitality important about Flick that you need to know is that he can't stay quiet for long. "I mean without the you know 'winning over Lauren' thing."

"Without that? About as well as all the other years," I'll explain what that Lauren thing he mentioned is later. "With it, though, it'll be the best year of my life. Hopefully."

John F. Kennedy High School came into view through the trees. It wasn't the largest school in the county but it wasn't a slouch either. It had two parking lots, one in front and the other around back. The football field was the newest thing about the place. Last year the principal had the grass replaced with artificial turf, cost a million bucks.

"Careful man, you don't want to be one of those losers who peaks in his senior year." Flick gave his sarcastic retort.

Me and him were all about sarcastic retorts, it's our thing.

Oh shit I forgot to describe us. My bad, Flick is 5'2 and weighs 120 pounds. He's one of the smallest guys at JFK, but don't think that's not a good thing. The bastard's small enough to slip under people at the lunch line. Flick also has shoulder length hair, he looks a lot like Kurt Cobain. Don't say that to him though, it annoys him.

I'm around 5'11 with brown curly hair and brown eyes. I wear think rimmed glasses and look a lot like season 1 Zachary Levi Chuck. Though I don't wear chucks.

Neither of us are over weight even though we both agree that having a fat friend would have its advantages. But we're not athletic either. We're your garden variety nerds. And yes we like to be called nerds rather then geeks, dorks or faggots.

"The best year of my school life I meant." I corrected myself.

Lauren Hilovic has had the same homeroom as me ever since she moved to town back in the 6th grade. My last name being Hayden. So Flick wasn't surprised that I cut short our conversation to get to homeroom early.

Lauren was like the sun rise, she brought life to any room she entered. She has dirty blonde hair, a deep tan and dark 'come hither' eyes. Anytime I was in the same room I had to actively stop from looking at her too much.

Right now she wore no makeup, grey sweats, flats, an oversized sweater and had her hair in a messy bun. Lauren was still the most beautiful women I have ever seen.
