The sun sets once again, filling the sky with oranges and pinks. What a beautiful site. I sit alone on my back porch, enjoying my loneliness. Once the sun is completely gone, the sky is full of stars, too many to count. I stare down at my scarred hands and arms. The marks of my parents. Never to be forgotten. I turn to the back door and slowly walk inside. I live alone yet, my house could accompany a family. My parents left this house for me. And not to mention their money. Too much money for me. Even though they are gone, I'm reminded of them everyday. I need to get my mind of them. My desk calls my name, telling me to work and to not think of my parents.

As the work hours drag on, I decide I've had enough. I walk out of my office, through the living room and finally to the kitchen. I open the cupboard, and grab the wine and a wine glass. Once I've poured my glass, I walk to the stereo that sits in my living room. When I start enjoying myself, my phone rings. Who is calling me at 3 AM? "Hello?" "Hey, sis." "One, don't call me that. My name is Rose. Two, you are aware that it's 3 AM, correct?" "It's not 3 AM in New York." Don't you think I know it's not 3 AM there? You wouldn't be calling me if it was. "What do you want?" "We need to discuss Mom and Dad's company with the Weldon's." "Melissa, they died, it's not theirs anymore." "Not the point, Rose." "Alright, schedule a meeting then, call the Weldon's, tell them to be in New York by Friday. Okay?" "Will do." "I have to go." "Why?" Because I don't like talking to you. "It's 3 AM" "Oh, Right. I'll see you Saturday." "I guess so, Bye." "Bye." As soon as I hang up with her I start my music again. Beep. Another interruption. It's a message. At least no one is calling me.

Message Received at 3:21 AM

I need to sleep for tomorrow. I go into my room and fall fast asleep.

The sun shines through my window, waking me. I check the clock on my night stand and it reads 10 AM. I jump out of bed and take a shower. I undress myself and let the cold water run down my bare back. A memory of my father clouds my mind. He would leave bruises and cuts on my back, my mother would take me to the shower and wash the blood off me. I shiver at the memory and the coldness of the water. I wash my hair and my body and get out as fast as possible. I chose to wear a black chiffon dress and white wedges. Such a sad color. Fits my personality. I call my driver to take me downtown. He shows up in five minutes. Climbing in the car, I greet him with a small hint of pleasure. I wash it away quickly. "Downtown.",I say sternly. "Yes ma'am." The ride there is silent. I dial Matt's number and he picks up after 2 rings. "Rose." "Hey, where would you like to meet?" "Meet me at the new Italian Restaurant." "Okay. I'll be there in a few, see you then." "Okay, bye."

--

I see Matt once I step out of the car. He has chose an outdoor table. He bronze hair shines under the sun. I walk towards him and his blue eyes meet mine. I send him a fake smile and he sends a real one back. "Matt." "Rose!" Seems a little too excited. He stands to give me a hug, I grimace once he can't see my face. He walks over to my seat and pulls it out for me. "You look beautiful today." Ehh, WHAT?? "Oh, thanks." Our waiter comes around the corner and gives us menus. He sees the ring on my finger that my grandmother gave me. "Are you two recently married?" I look at Matt and give a small chuckle. "No. We aren't dating or married." "Oh, good." He hands me a napkin with a phone number on it. I look at it as he walks away and find out that its his. "Whats that?" "His number." I chuckle once more. "Keep it." "Are you kidding me? No way." "Why not?" "I don't need or want any romance." "Oh." His voice goes hard. The waiter comes back and we place our order. I also explain that I'm not dating, so he doesn't get his hopes up."Rose." "Yes?" Why does he say my name so much? "I'm going to be staying at North Hotel." "Okay." "Do you want to share a room?" My eyes widen and he reads my expression. "A room with two separate beds?" Oh, of course that's what he meant. Duh. "Sure."

Once we've finished eating, I have to go home and pack some clothes for my weekend. My ride home is quite and lonely. Just the way I like it. I pack 3 dresses, 2 extra bras, 3 extra pair of underwear, 2 skirts and 2 shirts. I'll just take my white wedges. By the time I finish packing. it's 5 PM. I decide to work until I've had enough.

--

The hours fly by and it's 10 PM now and I'm exhausted. I fall asleep and dream about the waiter who gave me his number and Matt's disappointment.
