Chapter one:
One dark stormy night, two young girls sought for a decent shelter. "Over here Megan!" The older girl called to her sister, waving towards an old brick house. "C-coming Amber." The younger one, named Megan, called out softly. She tiptoed over to where Amber was waiting, careful not to slip and fall in the rain puddles. "A-are you sure it's s-safe? Are there any of t-them?" Megan whisper shakily, her eyes filling up with new tears. "It's okay Megan, c'mon before one of them sees us." Amber told her sister in a soothing voice. Amber pulled out a small gun from her belt, and took her sisters hand. Inside the house, was broken glass and smashed pictures. It was dead silent and their footsteps was the only sound heard over the falling rain. "Be on the lookout while I search the place." Amber handed Megan her favorite weapon, a short but lethal dagger. Megan walked slowly over to the window, checking out the area. "Nothing looks like it should." She whimpered. She walked away from the window and heard someone, or something, knock on the door. Megan's eyes shot open and she held her breath. 'I-is it one of them?' She thought, pulling the dagger closer to her chest as tears streamed down her face. Megan carefully crawled into a corner of the room and listened knock after knock, each one getting louder. Amber was meanwhile upstairs, her grey eyes darting around, taking in the broken furniture and shattered glass. She lit a cigarette and tried to calm down a bit. She was just as shaky as her younger sister, Megan. A loud shattering noise took her attention. 'MEGAN!!!' She thought as she darted down the staircase. She heard her younger sister screaming, and jumped the last dozen steps. She fell to the floor and landed on her feet, not even stopping to catch her breath. "Megan!!! Hold on I'm coming!!!" She ran down the hallway to see a crowd of zombies trying to break into the house through the window. In a swift movement, Amber had a knife in one zombies face, and a round of bullets in another three. "Don't just stand there, help me kill these things!!!" Quickly, Amber switched weapons with Megan, and begun to stab at the undead corpses. Megan held the gun with shaky hands and stood crying. "I-I can't! I can't do it!" She cried. Just then a zombie crashed through the window, Megan screamed her head off, thinking this was then end. Only the zombie wasn't after her, it was already dead. A clean shot right through the head dripped black blood. "Wh-what?" She stuttered. More gun shots sounded in the distance, and the hoard stopped. Megan dropped the gun and sank to her knees, crying once again. "I-I'm so sorry..." Her voice trailed off. She looked at the blood stained ground and then sniffed back some tears. Amber fell to her knees with her hands over her right eye. "Hurry Megan, go get Seth...now!!! I got nailed in the eye and if it doesn't come out soon, I'll be infected and you'll be a goner without me!" Amber gasped in pain, motioning her little sister to the door. Blood dripped down her face and had already begun to darken in color; almost to a black color. Megan ran out the door nervously, and brought back a boy with very light blonde hair and purple eyes; he carried a shotgun and was covered in black blood, clearly from the zombies. "What happened Megan?" The sixteen year old boy asked the timid young girl. "A-Amber....!" She said with wild eyes and pointed to her older sister. Amber's breath was shaky and her face was nothing but a bloody red shape. Seth gently moved Megan out of the way and rushed over to Amber. He placed his hand on her shoulder and said hiding his fear, "Everything will be ok, trust me." Seth reached into his small and blood covered backpack and pulled out a little bottle of liquid. He quickly poured it into a sharp needle and then held his breath as he plunged the needle into Amber, releasing the liquid. "This is the antidote, you'll be better in a little bit. You feeling better?" He said with a small smile.

Chapter two:
"M-m-my eye..." Removing her bloody hand, a gaping black hole that used to hold her eye was revealed. Her two companions gasped in horror and Amber broke down in painful and bloody tears. The antidote seemed to have worked, and all three were more than grateful for that. Seth pulled out some bandages and helped wrap them around Amber's face, blood getting on his fingers and palms. "There you go." Seth half-heartedly smiled. Megan sighed and looked out the window and saw movement then gasped. "U-um, guys?! We need to get moving! I-I think they know we're here." Megan had big scared eyes as she walked over to Amber and Seth. Seth looked from Megan, to the broken down door and the shattered window, to Amber. "You think you're well enough to travel? 'Cause we gotta go, like now!" Amber nodded and stood, pulling a large silver and black scythe from her back. "Let's go." She handed Megan a couple of guns and ran out the door, swinging the scythe at a pair of zombies while Seth blew a few heads off. Megan ran after them, trying to be brave as she shot at zombies. "W-where are we going?" She called up to Amber, who was chopping up a group of zombies. "I don't know! Now step up your game already! I'm not going to baby you anymore!!! You're eleven, not eight!" She yelled as she cut one of the undead in half. Ever since Megan heard her sister yell that group of sentences, something inside of her changed. She swore to herself that she would be brave and strong. Taking in a deep breath, Megan put a look of determination on her face an then turned around and shot a zombie straight through the head. She gave a little grin and then shot another, then another, soon Megan was killing zombies like it was nothing. Turning her head, she spotted a huge hoard heading towards them. "Um, Amber? Seth? We really need to get moving, there's a giant hoard heading our way!" "Got it!" They both yelled and ran towards town. "Look out!!!" Seth screamed to Amber as a zombie creeped up behind her. Megan beat him to it. She blew two holes in its head and it fell to the hard ground. Amber nodded her thanks and swung the scythe. The blade sliced cleanly through rotten flesh, black blood spewing out onto the blade and ground. "Town's only about a mile away! If we hurry we can reach there by morning!" Seth hollered. The group of kids were clearly outnumbered, and they made a run for it. Megan ran as fast as her short legs would take her. She had it stuck in her head that the town would be better than the previous places that she had stayed. Houses with great protection, medicine, food and water, warmth. She smiled at the pleasant thoughts. Then curiosity got to her. "Seth, do you think town will be better?" Seth looked at Megan, but kept running. He sighed and then replied. "I dunno kiddo, but I hope." He sighs again. "I hope." Megan saw flickers of light in the distance. 'At least there's some electricity! That must mean it's better!' She though happily. "How much farther, Amber?" She called. "I don't know, we've been running for about ten minutes, I think it's safe to walk now." Amber slowed to a walk and panted heavily. She looked up to see the rain had slowed to a stop and the moon shone full above. Ahead, town was very far away, but lights flickered. 'Hmm...strange,' She thought. 'Must be fireflies....' She could tell what Megan was thinking, town must be close. They were only three fourths of the way there and they were all getting fairly tired. "I think we need to stop and rest for the night... We still have a long way to go and it looks like we're all about to collapse." Seth breathed, clearly tired. A fairly large tree lay ahead, so they headed towards it. "Give me and Megan a leg up will ya?" Amber asked him as she took hold of a thick branch. Seth nodded and helped both girls into the tree, then letting them take hold of his arms to pull him up. "Thanks, anybody hungry? I have some snack bars and a bottle of water. We have to save it though." He took out a few granola bars and a bottle, passing them around. "Thank you." Megan nodded and thanked Seth, then took a small bite and a tiny sip. She looked towards the town with hope filled eyes. "Do you guys think that there will be more people there?" Megan looked from Amber to Seth with big blue eyes. "Maybe, lets just hope that if there is, they're all friendly." Seth replied and then looked at Amber. "What do you think the town will hold-" He was cut off by Megan. "Do you think that Mom and Dad are there?" Her eyes even bigger with hope. "I hope that they're ok." Megan smiled. Amber bit her lip and looked away from her sisters face, feeling guilty for not telling her about the fate of their parents. Although Amber had told her sister that they were alive and well, they were really undead corpses. She couldn't bring herself to tell this to Megan though. She couldn't bear to look into those wide, hope-filled blue eyes, not to tell her about their parents. "Thanks Seth, if it weren't for you, I'd be a corpse... But I paid a price... I lost my eye in that battle." Amber smiled at Seth before taking a large bite out of her granola bar. Before she went to sleep, she took a small sip of water and kept her scythe in arms reach. Seth volunteered to stay awake and watch for the night. They all finally agreed to take turns for watch, and Megan and Amber drifted off to sleep, dreaming of warm beds and shelter.
