Will always knew it would end this way. Staring down at his feet, and below that, a busy street. Sidewalks with bustling people, on their way to work. Children, who he was about to hurt emotionally and mentally.

"Will, what the hell are you doing?" He heard someone yell.

'Shit.' He thought.

"Enjoying the view. What are you doing up here?" Will asked, turning around on the edge.

"Looking for you. Now, what are you really doing?" The unknown visitor questioned.

Will squinted. And realized the unknown person questioning him was the one and only Nico di Angelo.

"Nico, go away." Will shouted across the landscape. He took a step closer to the edge. And another. And another, until he was several inches away from completely dropping off the building.

"Will, why are you doing this?" Nico yelled again, stepping forward towards Will.

"I'm sick of being sick, and I'm sick of seeing people die everyday because I couldn't get there fast enough, okay, Nico? So just let me do this one thing. Bye. I love you."

And without another word, Nico ran forward and Will stepped back and suddenly everything went into slow motion. Will was tumbling, Nico was overlooking the edge, watching his best friend and boyfriend fall to his death. Right before he hit the pavement, Nico shut his eyes and turned around. He pulled out his phone to call the police and an ambulance.

"Why are you here today, Mr. di Angelo?" The therapist asked.

"You know why. I phoned in to tell you why."

"I want to hear it from you personally, right now."

"Because my best frie- my boyfriend. Killed himself two weeks ago." Nico said quietly.

"Okay. And how does that make you feel?" Dr. Cilfe asked.

"Empty. Like nothing really matters anymore. He was the sunshine in my life, quite literally." He chuckled, bitterweet laughter.

"Are you the one who found him, Nico?"

His breathing became slightly more rapid. He began to feel panicked, scared.

"I watched him jump, Doctor."

Her face changed quickly.

"Oh. Mr. di Angelo, are you alright? Do you need a breath?" She asked.

"Yeah." He mumbled. Standing up, he left, planning to just go to the bathroom and splash some water on his face or something. Instead, he went right through the double doors and down the road, taking turns he knew all too well.

When Nico and Will's family went to clear out his apartment, they found boxes labeled with different names.

Mom and Dad

Percy

Annabeth

Nico

And he had an envelope on his bed, reading "Funeral funds." in deep black ink.

So they used them. And threw him the funeral he shouldn't have needed so soon.

His parents decided on an open casket, as his main injuries were to the back of his head.

Nico broke down when he saw Will's face caked over with makeup to hide the gray of death. He didn't deserve it; didn't deserve to die that young, didn't deserve his sadness. He only deserved the best, and that's what his family gave him during that funeral.

By the time Nico reached the address he was looking for, it was already starting to get dark. But he walked through the graveyard, murmuring the name he needed most. 'Will, Will, Will, Will.'

And he found his gravestone, finally. There were new roses, and a picture of Will with a giant smile plastered on his face, bordered by a silver frame. Nico remembered that picture; it was from a beach party they'd thrown at the camp. He could see his fingertips on Will's waist. Looking at the tombstone, he read over the words he had memorized by then: 'Here lies William Solace, loved boyfriend, brother, and son. Taken too soon.' And below that, a set of numbers with a little line between them.

"God, Will, come back please. I miss you so much. You are a hero, no matter what you thought." Nico whispered, crying.

Just looking at that goddamned picture was all it took for another wave of sobs to overcome his body. He just needed Will to come back.
