Title: Please Don't Leave MeRating : PG-13, for the material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
Character Name : Valerie, meaning strong; valiant.Requested by : No one, but, I did say last chapter that I was creating this.
"Valerie (l/n), please report to Commander Reyes for a brief consultation. I repeat, a brief consultation." You got up and took the last swig of your coffee before setting it aside to leave and see him...and God, you were nervous.
There were quite a bit of rumours going around that Commander Reyes was to pass his title to another member of the team, whom you knew as Jack Morrison. You hated the idea of it, for you always thought that Reyes was perfectly fine as a commander. He addressed everyone properly and always made sure everyone got out of each mission alive. Sure, he wasn't the greatest when it came to actually speaking to each of you, but he was clear with his words and didn't have to explain many of his actions.
This...Jack fellow, was alright. He was loyal to each of you, and like a good friend and comrade, he also made sure everyone was alright. He seemed to also take a liking to Reyes, always looking up to him as a figure to follow and go by, but, not much else. You never had a say in the matters, for you were not one of authority. But, if you were, in a split second Reyes would stay Commander of Overwatch, and Jack would stay as a soldier. You actually did ask most of your team members about Jack, and a lot of them did actually say that he would be well fit as a commander, which always made you roll your eyes and laugh a bit.
Not once had you ever confronted Gabriel about it, but from his stature you knew for a fact that he wasn't alright with it. That man, you swore, could carry a thousand burdens and still be at the top of his game as commander, which was certainly respectable according to most.
Your footsteps were fairly heavy, as you could hear each click of your boots when you went down the hall. You received a few stares from some of the recruits that were signing up, but frankly, you didn't give a damn about them. You didn't care what the hell they thought about you, which always gave you an intimidating appearance. And, it also didn't help that your resting face looked like you were about to kill someone. You yawned and kept walking normally, not letting the gazes bring you down.
"Hello my friend!" Came a booming voice from behind you. In a split second you knew who it was. Reinhardt, one of your greatest friends. You turned around and gave him a short smile while you spoke.
"Hello Reinhardt! How has your day been so far?" He laughed and rested his large hammer on his shoulder. The base itself had to be larger for Reinhardt, because his armour would take up a lot of space in the hall after each mission.
"It has been good! Better day than most!"
"That's wonderful to hear." You replied.
"Hey!" He started with a smile. "You should come by training room today, I will teach you thing or two." You gave him a sincere smile before leaving him to get to Reyes.
"That sounds great." You sighed, but not sadly. "I will see you around, then."God, why were you so nervous to see him? It's just Reyes. It's not like he's some crazy psychopath running around trying to kill everyone. But, you were still anxious to know why he needed you.
'God,' You wondered. 'I better not be transferring.' You crossed your arms a bit at the thought. But, you let them fall to your sides when you reached his door. Almost immediately you heard a yell and a slam. Those, you assumed, belonged to Reyes.Knock Knock
You heard a rather irritated voice come from the other side of the door.
"Who is it?" You knew that voice belonged to Gabriel.
"It's me Valerie, sir..." You said with a hesitant tone. You then heard a sigh.
"Come in."You opened the door and saw that he was of course there, just lounging in his desk chair. He was covering his eyes with his fingers, like he was annoyed. All negative thoughts swarmed into your brain, 'Was he kicking you out'? 'Were you just not good enough'?
'Please,' You thought, 'don't let that be...'
"Sit." He said with a tone empty of any emotion. You did so, but your brain was telling you not to. Stupid anxiety. He leaned forward a bit and rested his elbows onto the desk.
"Do you know why you're here?" He asked. You swallowed a lump in your throat. Why were you acting like this?!
"F-For a...consultation, sir?" Damnit. It sounded more like a question than an answer, but, you couldn't tame your curiosity."No..." He said with a lower tone. "You're not here for that."
"Sir," You began. "Why am I here?"
"You're here...because I'm transferring you to Jack's squadron." The words that you didn't want to hear. No! There was no way you were going to do that! Not without your own, personal say. Gabriel saw that you were acting strange, and, what he honestly didn't want to confess was this: He didn't want you to leave.
You opened your mouth to speak, but found that no words would reach the surface. You were honestly shocked."You will be transferring tomorrow as long as I send in the papers. Here," He slid them to you. "I will just need your signature." You took the papers gently and read through the form. You were then starting to grow agitated with it, for it stated that the sole purpose of transferring you was because 'The Commander didn't want you to be put at risk.'
"No." You took the papers firmly, and ripped them in half. "I'm not leaving, Commander."
"Valerie." He sighed. "Look what you did." He got out of his chair and stood up with his phone in his hand.
"Nevermind, I'll be able to-"
"Reyes!" You raised your voice, standing up. "I'm not leaving! God, why on Earth would I want to? I'd rather serve next to you, wherever that may be! So don't you dare call him. I've made my choice." He slipped his phone back into his pocket whilst giving you a deathly stare."Valerie, I am commanding a system by the name of Blackwatch. This whole group does the nastiest jobs you can ever think of." He stammered a bit, finding the correct words to say. "Commander Morrison and I believe it's important that you go with him, so no harm can come to you or the others."
"What if I'm willing to put my life on the line for others?! Commander-"
"I am NO LONGER YOUR Commander! I WILL NOT RISK YOUR LIFE!" He yelled fairly loud, piercing you with each word. You've never heard him this loud when it came to you, for he always kept his quiet, calmed tone. But, you were rather out of character too. But, what he said....did he actually care?
"Gabriel....I'm-"
"No." He started to approach you with a different look. "Don't you dare say anything else."He had finally embraced you into a hug, but, the hug started to get rather...long.
And what you did next?
Well,
I didn't know you had it in you.You cupped his face and gave him a rather long kiss, one that was sure to take his breath away entirely. He chased you straight back with strength you didn't even know he had. He lifted you up and you wrapped your arms around his neck, smiling a bit. He pulled away from the kiss and set you down though.
"Valerie. I think I....love you." Tears started to well up into your eyes at his words. He finally said the words you wanted to hear, but, why did he say that when he was transferring you? Why not sooner?! But, you were happy nonetheless.
"Gabriel, I love you as well." You gave him a final hug, nuzzling your face into his chest.-
"Valerie....are you sure about this? I don't want you to-"
"Commander Reyes, I want to serve next to you. Make the call, please.""Okay...." He began. "Let's get you into Blackwatch."
//Short and sweet, just what I imagined him to act before his own personal crisis.
Anyway, stay tuned for the next chapter, which will feature the lovely Genji and Reader! Stay amazing, loves!
Still know requests are open! :D
