Chapter 3
"Casual Conversation"
"Why Rayne wouldn't you like to introduce me to your friend?" Eve drawled out while batting her eyelashes at Xander.
"Eve, Xander. Xander, Eve. Happy?" I said with the least bit of enthusiasm hoping she would get the hint.
"Well hello there handsome, welcome to our little town," she said shamelessly. Not at all trying to hide the flirtation in her voice. I very badly wanted to smack my forehead and ask myself what I did to deserve this.
"Nice to meet you too," was all he said with a glint of amusement in his eyes.
Just then the group of girls Eve had been with earlier used her as their way to talk to Xander. Talk... Drool... same difference to them I suppose. That was when I decided to walk away. I did NOT want him associating me with those ditsy girls. Eve acted like that sometimes but she wasnt the same as the other ones with the manicured fingernails and ribbons in their ponytails. I took one last glance at their attack on that poor guy and then turned to find another game to play.
Just as I was about to slip a few quarters into another game it felt light my arm was shocked by lightening and I shuddered with the pleasure of it. Xander must have felt it because he immediately let go. I turned to look at him and there were those eyes again. Neither of us said anything for what seemed like forever until he finally spoke.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to invade your personal space," he said without breaking eye contact.
"Huh? oh! No you're fine I probably wouldn't of heard if you called my name over the music and chatter.." I stumbled over my words then decided to stop babbling uncontrollably. Then I thought with horror that maybe he forgot my name which is why he grabbed my arm..
"I guess you're right. I hope you dont mind that I used you as an excuse to escape the horde?" he asked looking slightly timid as a few strands of his black hair slipped out of place and over his left eye. He looked about good enough to eat.
I gave him a confused look until he nodded over his shoulder and my eyes followed until the landed on the group of girls that had swarmed him. Eve not among them, it was only a matter of time before she interrupted again.
I giggled, "Yea, I felt pretty bad leaving you there on your own but im not exactly a fan of swarms of girls either."
Then he laughed. Like music to my hears I couldn't help but smile at just the sound. His face was another story. The laughter made all his features glow and he had incredibly white and straight teeth. Then there were those dimples... oh the dimples were what got me the most.
"You're not too bad though," he said as if to himself. I had to fight extremely hard to keep my eyes from bugging out of my head. I think that was sort of a compliment right? He obviously would rather talk to me then any of those other girls trying to burn holes in my face with their jealous glares.
I felt my cheeks get hot as I mumbled, "Um, thanks I guess.." Then there was a sort of awkward silence as I refused to look back at his face. I could feel him staring at me, but I knew I would look my train of thought as soon as we made eye contact and I didn't want him changing his mind about me not being like those other desperate girls. I was just glad he hadn't mentioned my little incident at the football game earlier.
Just then the music stopped as we heard someone clear their throat into the loud speaker.
"Hey everyone! Jake West here! Just wanted to let everyone know, party at my house tomorrow night!" he called excitedly through the microphone.
Everyone started cheering and then the music started back up and everyone resumed what they were doing before the interruption.
I turned my attention back to Xander and said, "You should go to the party. That would be a good way to meet people... unless you dont want to be surrounded by a bunch of highschool kids.." I trailed off.
He surprised me by saying, "Are you going to be there?"
"Umm, I uh---"
"Rayne!"
Oh for crying out loud.
"We are soooooo at that party!" Eve exclaimed, suddenly right behind me. She had a sugary sweet smile on her face but her eyes said she had a bone to pick with me.
"Well there you go," I said, turning back to Xander.
He just nodded and said, "Well alright then. See you later." before walking out of the arcade.
As soon as he was out of sight Eve turned to me with a look that could kill. So I laughed.
"What?" I asked.
"You know exactly what." she said without the slightest hint of humor.
"Sorry. He came up to me!"
"Well of course he did! All you had to do was bat your long pretty eyelashes at him and flip your long pretty hair a time or two and now he's lost to me forever!" she said looking extremely disappointed.
I changed the subject by asking, "Do we really have to go to that party?"
"Yes. Now you have to come." she said, calming down slightly.
"Why?" I asked as she started to pull me out of the arcade and back to my car.
"Because now sexypants will be expecting you."

Was it short? Sorry if it was but I'm tired. I'll pick this up tomorrow.
