ON OUR WAY

Right after Luke left, i rose from the bed and grabbed my knapsack that was lying across the floor, right beside another bed. Not knowing that it was halfway open, I threw one strap behind me as all my books fell out. Could this day get any worse? I grumbled to myself as I started to pick them up one by one. I could hear students passing by on the other side of the door chatting. Some were talking bout going to this new coffee shop that opened up near the station, while others were getting excited to head straight to their after school clubs, something I'll never get to do.

After picking everything up, I double checked just to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Pleased with my findings, I stood up and walked straight to the door, and right before I was about to open it, I heard two voices talking on the other side.

"Ms. Elizabeth," An old croaky voice said, "I heard that one of your students have been giving you a hard time these past couple of days." He finished.

"Yes, but aside from that, he's very diligent on his tests." Replied the other voice that seemed quite familiar to me. It was my strict homeroom teacher, Elizabeth Channings.

"I've never had a student do so well on the final exams."

"Well, if it was Mr. Cunningham, I wouldn't be surprised. He is the pride of our school."
I flinched at the name. They're talking about Luke?

"Of our basketball team." Elizabeth corrected.

"Either way Ms.Elizabeth, aren't you suppose to be checking on that other trouble maker of yours?" He said and this time I was pretty sure they both were looking at the door.

In a panic I quickly looked around, searching for a place to hide while making sure I don't make a single noise. I spotted a corner that was hidden from view, right next to the old wooden desk at the right side of the room. A plant with big leaves was placed right next to the desk, so I quickly grabbed it then slammed my body to the wall and placed the plant right in front of me. The door shatters opened and I could hear Ms. Elizabeth's high heels, walk towards the bed that I was just asleep in. She slides open the curtains and looks at the bed for awhile. Disappointed she Shakes her head then turns around and heads to the door. I could hear her mumbling words on her way out.

Just waiting for a little bit before coming out from my hiding spot, I finally stood up and carried the the plant out of my way then placed it back right next to the nurse's desk. Tiptoeing towards the door, I placed my right ear on it just in case Ms. Elizabeth was still somewhere close by. It was quiet, I mean I could hear some girls talking at the next room or someone walking, but I was relieved Ms. Elizabeth wasn't there, or she would have changed her mind and had me go to her office.

I quickly opened the door and ran straight towards the stair case. Not even stepping on every single stair. By the time I got to the first floor, I ran straight to the locker room and almost banged on my locker as I stopped to catch my breath. Thing's I'd do just to leave school. I thought as I gasped for air. It was still bright outside. I could hear students talking and even the sound of the bat hitting the ball from the baseball field. After my breathing was normal, I straightened my back then opened my shoe locker. I grabbed my small brown school shoes and replaced it with my school slippers. Closing it, I headed out to the main entrance then towards the gates.

The sun was shining brightly like it usually would and I was starting to get sweaty. Looking around, the place I lived in was a small town that only had one of everything. We have a single hospital, a single school, a single supermarket, a single library, a single of everything. My house was at the upper part of the place, So I had to walk up a slope. Others might think it's bad, but honestly, there's something really good about this. I stopped on my tracks as a gust of wind blew causing my hair to flow wildly in the same direction. I turned to my left and in front me was a beautiful lake that was glistening right underneath the bright sun. I didn't know why from all places, the Athanatos placed me here, but I would never have wished to be placed somewhere else.
