“Can you really tell us where Wendy is?” Everyone seemed upset. Tears were in Lucy’s eyes, and anger was in everyone else’s.
“Why would we trust her? Did you already forget what she did? She attacked us, Lyon. Attacked us. We could have died!” They were so angry about something I had no control over. I didn’t want to attack them. I stood up and took a step back, everyone yelling at me. My eyes were watering, my head was in pain, I was getting dizzy.
“Y-yes…I can t-tell you where she is. No tricks to it! I want to help. If I could re-do everything that happened…trust me…I would. But that isn’t something anyone is capable of. It would be impossible.” Everyone was quiet until Natsu spoke up.
“How do we know we can trust her!? She could lead us into a trap!” I trembled…they reminded me of my older brother. My older brother’s went by Zero, and he was a very efficient script mage. He never trusted me because I’m made of water and he thought I was evil, so he bullied me every day because of it. But when he disappeared from a spell he accidently read out loud, I was so heartbroken. And now these wizards were just reminders of that pain.
“LOOK! I’M NOT GONNA KILL YOU! OKAY?! If you want to find your friend, I can show you a map.” I threw the map I had with me at them and turned around. “Good luck, I hope Erza’s okay, and thank you for being so nice. I have to go. Good bye.” I ran off, not wanting to see them again, not knowing where to go. It may seem like over-reacting, but in all reality, who wants to be reminded of a dead brother and be yelled at all the time?
“Wait!” I stopped at the sound of the voice, knowing immediately who it was. Lyon. Why was he following me? Why did he seem to care so much? “Wow. You can really run long distances without tiring, can’t you?” He chuckled and carried on. “I never got your name. I know you probably don’t want to see us again, but we are splitting up in groups and I thought you would be a major help to us. So…what do you say?” His lips were turned up in a smile and his hand was outstretched towards me. I inhaled deeply, grabbing his hand.
“My name is Aya…Aya Falls. And I’m only accepting because I have a question.” He nodded as if saying ‘Go on, ask away’. I exhaled and continued. “Why do you keep following me? Caring if I’m on your team or not? Is it because you think I’m powerful? Or do you think that if I’m out there alone, I will get hurt? What is it?” He looked to the side only to turn back to me again, lips and eyes serious again.
“We feel bad for you. Plus, we need to return you to your family later, keep you safe. Is that a good answer?” My eyes glazed over with tears as I let go of his hand. I turned back around, hoping he would get the message, but clearly he didn’t. I glanced over my shoulder, he was still there.
“You can leave now.” He seemed confused, not understanding what I was trying to say. “I’m teaming up with you because you feel bad for me. I’ve gotten enough of that in the past years. And you don’t have to worry about my family. I don’t have one. Just call my name if you need me or something. I owe you anyways.” I looked straight ahead and began walking, losing all sense of direction as tears flowed down my cheeks. Turning around, I saw that he was gone. I breathed a sigh of relief and continued walking down the path to nowhere. It was a lot harder to leave them than you would think. It was my second chance at a real family in a guild instead of living alone. But I went and turned them down. I couldn’t beat myself up over it, though. I had to keep moving. I had to keep Oracion Seis from hurting them; it was the least I could do. If they died because I wasn’t there, who knows how much more guilt I would be put through. My parents died in a tragic way. It was about three years ago at my brother’s funeral. I was so angry and upset I lost control of my powers, creating a major storm in the tiny village where we resided. My parents died because of my outburst, and I promised I wouldn’t do something like that again. I wouldn’t get close to someone; they would just hurt me further. Instead I focused on controlling the power that worked so hard to hurt people. Those wizards…Natsu, Lucy, Erza, Jura, Gray, and even Lyon…I wanted to be friends with them. But I had to hold back. Who knows what damage I could do. It was best to stay out of their lives. I had been walking for a while when I heard a scream resembling Gray’s voice---was he in trouble? Or was he just screaming at the enemy? I turned around, trying to do more good than harm, and ran in the direction of the voice. My legs ached, but it didn’t matter. I needed to see what was happening. I finally saw Gray and Sherry standing on the edge of a cliff crying. It broke my heart to see them like that. So…vulnerable.
“Gray! What happened her? Why are you—“ I was interrupted by Sherry’s voice, cold and chilling.
“Lyon…he…he’s gone. He jumped off with Racer to save us—no—Gray…and then he was just…gone.” I gasped. I hardly knew Lyon, but it was surprising such a strong wizard could fall so easily.
“Um…Gray? Just wondering, but is Erza okay? Did Wendy get there in time to save her? I hope it’s okay I’m asking this…but I couldn’t handle the thought of two of your wizards being lost today…you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, though…” He gulped and nodded a yes. I smiled slightly and grabbed Gray’s arm, looking at him with determination.
“Now c’mon. Let’s go find Lyon. He’s too strong to have fallen already!” Gray’s sad face suddenly became a happy one and he nodded once more, eager to find Lyon.
