*Author's POV*
Today is the evening of princess Emma's 21st birthday. Her parents the king and queen of Garrington had prepared a grand ball and invited every possible suitor that will be a grand choice to take princess Emma's hand in marriage. Princess Emma wasn't too intrigued by the idea of having to pick someone tonight, she wanted true love. But she never knew what was in store for her tonight.

*Emma's POV*
"Happy Birthday my sweet Emma." I hear as I wake up. I take a glance and it's Lily my best friend and personal maid. "Aww thanks Lily," I say as I rub my eyes. As soon as I open my eyes she gives me a necklace with a red and black stone in the middle. I gasp. "It's beautiful, Lily this must have cost a fortune." She smiles.

"I did a little saving," Lily said with a big smile as she winked at me. She put it on me and I walked towards my vanity in awe. "Lily thank you so much, this is the best present ever, better than the ones my parents have in store for me tonight." I sigh. "Why do you say that Emma?" "Lily I don't want to go meet all these princes, I just want to go out and have an adventure and meet my one true love out there. I am so tired of ball after ball after ball."

"Your majesty?" "Excuse me?" I said in a very mad tone. "You know that you are my best friend so you are not supposed to call me your majesty." "I'm sorry Emma," she says and laughs. "That's better," I say and smile sweetly. "Well Emma go down to the banquet hall your governess is waiting to give you your final lesson before tonight's ball.." I nod.

"I have laid out your dress and shoes that I'm sure will match with your necklace."  I looked at it and smiled. "Perfect." She smiles. "Is there anything else you might need?" Lily asks as I'm changing. "No, I'm good and thank you for my gift." "You are very welcome and see you later Emma." I waved behind my screen door.

I hear the door close and continued to change. I finished changing and left my hair down. I go and put my small crown on. It's a drag to do this but oh well I must keep my family proud. I passed my brother's room and of course he is still sleeping. I wanted to walk around the castle before going into the banquet hall for my lesson.

I managed to sneak and go down a spiral staircase that led to where the Knight's practice at. As I was walking down I see a knight and I saw a glimpse of his face, he had a huge scar lining his jaw. He wasn't like the others and he just bowed to me and kept going. I thought I was going to get in trouble for sure. He sure gave me a different vibe.

Right when I turned back around he was gone. I shook off the feeling and went to the banquet hall. I closed the door and smiled. All I could think about was that knight. "You're late your majesty." I look at her and sighed. "Im sorry." She scoffs then claps. "Well let's get started." As she was talking and going on about her lesson all I could think about was that knight.

*Neal's POV*
I walked to the knight's hall and sat down on one of the benches. My fellow knights were sitting around me and we started to talk. "I saw the princess walking down the staircase before I came in here." They all sat there quietly. "And you didn't warn us?" The captain of the guard asks.

"She just walked away after I left." "Well the next time you do see her like that please let us know." "Yes sir," I say as I got up and walked away. As I walked out of the hall all I could think about was how beautiful she is. I never paid attention to her before because I'm always on the outside guarding the castle walls. As I'm walking it totally hit me that it's her birthday. She's finally 21, I remember when I got here she was 15.

I'm 25, not a bad age difference right? No, who am I kidding, she can't be interested in a knight like me. Well I can try something. Maybe we can start a friendship but I know it's forbidden for me to talk to the princess like that. I smiled and just thought that it was nice that she smiled at me. I walked to my post and tried to forget about my absurd idea of being friends with the princess.
