*Hunter's POV*
I head out into the parking lot after the final bell rings. Tyler is my ride home once again. When I enter his car, he immediately smirks at me. "What is that look for?" I ask, honestly confused. "Dude. If I had known Sydney was that hot, I may have noticed her before. You don't like her, right? Maybe I can go for her??" He says, laughing. "Don't go breaking her heart, Ty." I reply. "You didn't answer my question." He says, referring to me liking her. I turn my face towards the road and don't say another word, ignoring Tyler for the entire rest of the ride. When we arrive at my house, I see someone's car parked out front. Sydney must have beat me here. She must already be inside, chatting up my sister. I burst into the house and hear them in the kitchen. "The most attractive guy you've ever seen has arrived!" I shout. Leila shoots me a glare and Sydney laughs. Leila punches her arm, and she quits laughing. "Ready to study, or you got to check yourself in the mirror?" Leila says, chewing the side of her mouth. "Ruthless..." I mutter. I begin towards the steps, Sydney following closely behind.
We get straight into studying Calculus, which is really hard for me for some reason. I failed a test the other day, and I practically have to ace this test coming up to have an C for the semester. Winter break is coming up, symbolizing the end of a semester.
"Hey I got a non-calculus question." She abruptly says. "Shoot, Flower." I reply. Her cheeks heat up. "What was that note all about?" Crap. "Oh it was nothing." I say, hoping that she will buy my lie. "Then why did he know my name? Practically no one knows my name." I look at her. She has her dark hair curled at the ends. She is wearing hardly any makeup. Her outfit is a short green dress with boots. She is beautiful.
"I know your name. You want the real story?" I reply, after a minute. "Well, obviously, or I would not have asked." She says, very sarcastic. "Okay well, I got a text from you in the car, when I was with Tyler. He read the word 'boyfriend' and thought we were dating. I immediately shut him down, but he still doesn't really buy it." I say, my words jumbling together. She simply nods. "Well, now I have a question for you. Does Jack like my sister?" Immediately, she looks away. "I'll take that as a yes." "NO," she shouts, "You can't tell anyone, Hunter. Seriously." She says. I put my hands up in surrender, "I won't say anything." I take an imaginary key and lock my mouth shut, just for her benefit. I throw the "key" at her, and she catches it and puts it in her pocket.
Loud noise comes from downstairs. Her eyes dart to my bedroom door. "It's just my parents." I say, continuing to write down the answers to a few problems. "Lucky. My family is never home. That's why I freaked out a bit. You have the perfect family." She says, looking away from me. She continues, "You're rich, clearly. Your sister is amazing, obviously, and you actually see your parents." She looks upset. "Trust me. It isn't that perfect. My dad is never here, too." I say. She looks confused. "I swear I just heard a man's voice, so how can that be true?" I look directly into her eyes and then say, "I'll be right back."
I go to the bathroom. Sydney didn't understand. There is more to it then she thinks. I have never told anyone. A tear begins to run down my cheek. I wipe it off, immediately. I refuse to cry. I take a deep breath and head back upstairs. "You okay, Hunter?" I nod, getting back to work.
