Kai knew that vioce.
It was that slippery eel.
The human.

And unfortunately for her, he had remembered were her station was. Still sitting on the rock, her tail in the water, she turned to see Prince Edmond. He was standing behind her, looking over her shoulder.

"I see your still alive...unfortunately." She mumbled.

The man glared at her. Why isn't she drooling at the near sight of me, like every other maiden?

The prince's eyes gleamed as he snatched the book from Kai's hands and backed away.

"How adorable." Prince Edmond taunted, opening the book to a random page.

She should be blushing at my complement. And going out of my way here in the first place. He thought.

"Unhand the word box, human scum!" Kai demanded, narrowing her eyes at him.

"What did you say?" He asked, bewildered.

"Give me the word box!"

The prince began to laugh. His rough bellow caused the mermaids fist to clench.

"Tell me, what is so humorous?" She seethed.

"Word box." He chuckled. "A bloody word box?! I've never heard a book reffered to as a word box before."

"Why you-!" Kai put a hand on her dagger preparing to strike but she stopped herself. "Book... so that is what it is called!"

The prince rolled his eyes.
Why doesn't she find me attractive...?

Well mermaids do not have mates.

Yes but-

She kills men. There are no males of her kind. We are natural enemies. How could she find something she despises pleasing?

Well. She obviously doesn't know handsome when she sees it. My looks may not be useful here. What could possibly lure her? He wondered, having inner conflict in him.

The prince ignored her and began to read aloud. The mermaid noticed how his mood and tone had changed with the words. It was to make them more powerful. He accented the words and created music. She watched him curiously.

"A Tree.
The Scene.
The Green Eyes of He.
My Thoughts Serene.
The Warm Brisk Breeze
A Dance in the Sky
Weakening Knees
Light of Fireflies
and Pixie Dust
An Innocent Kiss
With a Hint of Magic Lust
and Tender Bliss..."

Kai then realized. Books cause emotion. Like song. A song is just poetry outloud with a beat! Books are art with words. Music is art with sound. Both are made with silence! Alas it makes sense.

She blinked owlishly at him as she had her revelation.

"Well I didn't realize I was that dreamy." The Prince smirked, running a hand through his tousled hair.

Kai was still unknowingly gaping at him. "That was beautiful."

So that's how. He smiled.

"Why Kai, I'm speechless." His tone was cocky as he put a hand to his chest.

"Oh hush."

"Fine. Since I am not wanted here I shall leave."

"Give me back my book you heathen!" Kai roared as he began walking away from her.

HE IS LITERATE! Her eyes widened. And he is stealing my book!
