The First Day

"First I open my eye's then I felt such a strange breeze, I traveled to a world made of blocks totally unbeknowns to me."

I listen to Adam's voice through my head phones as I start to shut my eyes slowly. It's been a long day, I thought as I leaned my head up against the bus window. It was a hour ride back home so I might as well relax a little.

My head pounds and jolt upwards. I get up brushing the dirt off my butt and I spin my head around looking everywhere. I was in the middle of no where, just trees and a chest. I go over to the chest with the sun beating down on my face. I've only been here for about thirty seconds and I'm sweating drastically. I swing the wooden chest's lid open to find some wood, a few apples, a wooden pickaxe, a wooden axe, and a clothe maybe a back pack. I grab everything out and shove it into the backpack looking thing.

'My name is Kosmos Greyson. I'm sixeen years old and I'm - I'm standing in Minecraft.' I repeated in my head over and over trying to process how I got from the soft seat listening to Adam's soothing voice, to this block world to feel the cool breeze with the tree's leaves swaying.

I go over to the blocky tree remembering the first "Let's Play" I had watched on YouTube by SeaNannders.

"Look around see where you at, and now you want wood. Haha, that's what she said."

I take my fist and begin to repeatedly punch the tree, 'this isn't working' I think to myself so I pull out the wood I had gotten before, and set them in the order a crafting bench is made. Sure enough a new block appears, a crafting bench. I look at it with weary eyes. This must be minecraft. I pinch myself and realize that I'm not dreaming that's for sure.

I grab the wooden axe out of my bag, and begin smacking the tree. After a minute of hitting it continuously the first block broke. I continued to do the whole tree and the one next to it. By the time I had finished this, it was mid-day and I could tell from how high the sun was in the sky. It sure was making me sweat everywhere, even though it was almost night. I should go find a cave or something I need coal and iron, it also makes fairly good shelter if you block up both sides.

I pack everything I have into the backpack, even the chest that I had found in the beginning, and run to the nearest hill surveying where I was. I spot a cave a few hills away from me, and then take a breath and start to sprint there. I go down the hill and across some grass, no animals in sight. Not that I can see anyways.

I get into the cave and pull my wooden pickaxe and start to break the nearest stone block. Cobblestone plops onto the ground and I pick it up shoving it in my bag and then continuing to get more cobble. I stop at thirteen pieces of cobblestone, and then go and get some dirt to block up the entrance of the cave. I block it, and then place my crafting table. I put the logs in the crafting table and it sparkles for a moment then refined wood pops out. I take the oak refined wood and put one over the other in on the crafting bench. It again sparkles, and four sticks appear. I grab them off the table and put one over the other. I pull the cobblestone out from my bag and throw it on to the crafting table, three above the sticks. They all sparkle and then a stone pickaxe appears. I take hold of it. The handle is wood and the blade stone, it's blade is freezing and it's amazingly more heavy than I thought it would be. I guess I'll be working up some strength while I'm here.

I take one stick and put it at the bottom middle and two more cobblestone above it. Again it sparkles. It's almost a glow of purple with sparks of light, like sparkles. A stone sword appears and I grab it quickly hearing the mobs start to spawn. 'This must be minecraft' I think and put the pickaxe and stone sword on my belt, these aren't the clothes I fell asleep in but a light blue shirt, and deep blue jeans with a brown belt. My long brown hair up in a pony tail and my gray sneakers full of dirt and mud where they look more brown than gray. I take my last eight cobble stone and put it in a square around the crafting table. It sparkles and then a furnace pops out, it's a mini version. I stick it into my bag and start to head down the little mine that would give me shelter tonight and possibly iron.

I pull my stone pickaxe out of my belt and hold it up at some coal. I whack the block hard and it chips slightly. I use all my strength to pick up my axe, which had fallen when I chipped the block. I swing again, and it chips a little more. I take a deep breath and keep swinging till the coal ore shrinks into a lump of coal. It's solid when I pick it up so I put it in my bag. I do the same with few more coal ores so I will be able to smelt my iron, and cook my meat. When I find meat, I mean I'm not that hungry my hunger has only dropped a meat and a half. I don't know how I can tell that it is, I just can tell I have full health, and that I have no armor on so I am pretty much naked.

Bingo, found a little vain of iron. It's the same as the coal. The iron is tough to mine, and the deeper I get into the cave the less air there is. I finish getting the vain of iron, and it was a jackpot of 5 iron ores. I shove the ores into my bag, and hear a zombie moan. I stumble backwards as I see a green figure with blue clothes emerge from the shadows a little ways down. I stand there in shock, coming to my senses I grasp my sword handle and yank it from my belt. The zombie comes closer and I raise the sword in my hands shaking like crazy. I take a step forward, and slash the zombie's arm off just like that. A thick red blood oozes from the cut and within a split second, I raise the sword again and plunge it into its heart. Well... if he had a heart in that cold brainless body. I feel bad for the poor soul, but either way he's dead.

He collapse to the ground, then fades to the gray of the stone around us. I hold the stone sword tightly shaking like there's no tomorrow. There's blood on the sword from the zombie, and blood splattered on my shirt. I put the bloody sword back on my belt and hop over the blood puddle to spot more iron. I mine the little vain of 3 iron, and it felt like forever. I heard a distant moan and decide it's about time to head back up. I go past the blood stained stone and it gives me chills to know that I came that close to death. My hands are still a little unsteady, and as I climb back up to the top I hear the sound of breaking blocks. I freeze, and barely even breath in fear that whatever it is will hear me. I see light as I hide around the corrner a little ways down in the shadows and It sounds as if its a guy breathing heavily. Then the light vanishes and it's dark again. I see what I think is torch light.

Oh crap! I left my workbench up there. If it is a person they'll know that someone is here. Who knows how they'll react when they see me? Kill me possibly? Maybe become allys? I don't want to take any chances. They could be nice at first, but turn on me any second they have.

I see a shadow of a man from the torch light. His breath steady, and I hear him setting things down. He's probably going to make a weapon. I should take him while he has nothing so I have the upper hand. Even though he most likely is stronger, a sword is everything in minecraft right? I crouch down and sneak up farther peering around the corner and seeing a man maybe in his early twenties with a beard. I only have a side view, but I can see that his hand is bloody and he has the same raggy backpack. He also is wearing dark blue jeans and has a light blue shirt just like me. I step out and stand behind him for a moment, he hasn't noticed I'm here so I go to the side that his wounded hand is on, and pull out my sword silently.

"Hi." I say and he practically jumps across the small square room that I had set up before I went down.

"Oh you scared the crao out of me!" All of a sudden he looked familiar to me.

"W - Woof?" Yes it's Woofless, or well Rob to be exact. I start to lower my sword a little more to make sure he wouldn't hurt me.

"Yeah - I'm woofless. Why.. do - do you know me?" He fumbles through words for the obvious reason because I appeared out of no where with a stone sword. To make things worse it already has blood on it, I must look like a mess too. I take my sword and shove it back on my belt.

"I watched you a lot on YouTube. before I uh - got to minecraft I guess." I say and scratch the back of my head nervously. "I'm Kosmos nice to meet cha."

"Rob." he extends his hand out for a hand shake and I except it.

"Sorry. I'm just kinda on edge. Since ya know? We're in Minecraft. Uhm, how'd you hurt your hand?" I talk quickly probably to compensate for my nervousness.

"I had to get wood somehow. How did you manage to get wood with out making your hand bleed?" He said with a surprised look.

"Oh. There was a chest with a wooden axe in it. I used that." I smile and pull my furnace out of my bag and set it down next to the crafting bench I had left up here.

"How long have you been in minecraft?" Rob asks and relaxes a little.

"A few days I think, I was mining when I heard you come in. How - how long have you been here?" I ask.

"An hour maybe?" He says and I look down at the floor realizing I'm standing in front of my idol and I must sound really crazy.

"I'm sorry I hoped to one day meet you. Just not like this, but I guess we're here now. I'm sorry I must sound crazy. I mean I just came outta no where. I'm sorry. I - I'm -"

"It's okay! Kosmos was it? At least we have each other now. Stop apologizing, there's nothing we can do to change our position the least we can do is be friends." He smiles and starts crafting something.

"Friends?" The word flies out of my mouth. "I'm sorry. God I'm so dumb it's just I've always watched you and to hear you talk to me in person is, amazing." I pull the iron that I had found out of my bag and shove it in the top of the furnace. I grab the coal out to and put it in there then I turn back to Rob.

"How heavy is that pick or the stone sword for that matter." he says and takes off his backpack setting it on the floor.

"Light enough I can handle it." I smile and see him hold up a newly crafted wooden pick. He goes to the wall and starts swinging.

"Rob, if we're friends now I have some cobble left over. It's yours if you want it," I pull the cobble out of my bag and hand it to him.

"Thanks. This must have taken forever to get this much cobble and iron too."

"Didn't take that long. Although I did have to kill a zombie in the process. Scary things are down there." I bend down and look in the furnace. I pull out the iron of the other end and watch the coal as it flames with a fiery red and a neon yellow. It's to hot to pull out I'll wait for a few minutes.

"Ah so that's where the blood is from." He laughs.

"Yes sir. Is it still day time?" I ask and begin to smack the dirt to outside. The day time light shined in through the block whole.

"Why don't we ditch this cave and go make a real shelter maybe find some water and food?" I suggest feeling a bit smart to take control of things.

"Sounds smart. Man I wish Preston were here." He says sighing as he situates his things.

"Ya you two are like best friends right?"

"We are. What were you doing before you came here to minecraft?" My eyes widen.

"Well... I was listening to music on the bus ride home. Actually I was listening to Adams new song, I'm glad I got to hear it one last time before I came here."

"He preformed it at MineCon. It was amazing I wish I had that good of a voice." He says joking around a little.

"You do I've heard you sing in videos you're pretty damn good. Maybe if we ever get out if here you'll do a parody." I smile lightly punching his arm shifting my bag from one shoulder to the other.

"Maybe," he smirks and comes toward the opening ready to go. As I grab my bag, crafting bench, and furnace, he opens the hole and we go out. "I feel like you have a very unfair advantage because you watched my YouTube videos and know a bunch of stuff about me. I know next to nothing about you."

"Well I'm a fifteen year old girl before I came to minecraft I lived with my mother and father and my pet dog Solo. I lived in Canada and I watched a lot of Team Crafted, I was planning to go to MineCon next year. Now are you happy?" I giggle and he laughs a little.

"Yes, now we know each other. Anyways where are we walking?" He says stopping and turning toward me. I stop too and look at him.

"I guess we should probably look for water and trees."

"Yeah that would make sense," he says and starts walking again.

***

My legs burn as I bend down to tie my shoe. The sun in just peaking up over the horizen and I spot a pond of water. I jump up sprinting at the pond. I hear Rob's running footsteps after me. I skid to a stop before fall into the water and Rob skids to a stop right next to me.

"Water," I weeze, "I'm really not in shape."

"Me either," he chuckles shuffling through his bag. He pulls out some dirt and starts to place it near the pound. Yes, this will be our first hut to live our first few night out in. I pull some cobble out of my bag and help him place. Soon enough we have a 6 by 2 dirt cobble hut with a door and a crafting table inside. The stars begin to come up and I watch for a little while then I go in the hut.

Rob and I sit across from each other talking about aimless subjects just to make it through the night. The moans of the zombies have stopped scaring me but the spider's hiss still makes me jump a bit. Rob seems completely relaxed, his eyes closed as he leans up against the dirt wall.

"What were you doing before you got dropped into this world." I ask since he had already asked me the same question.

"Taking a short bus ride home, Preston decided it would be better than walking."

"Preston? In Canada? Why?" I'm shocked, my fangirl powers must have not been working. Why do I make jokes in my head? Am I losing my mind, at this point I'm not sure my brain is working I just completely over looked the fact that we were both on a bus, "Were we on the same bus!?" I question.

"Not sure maybe." he says, he's far away I can tell by the look in his eyes. There's a sweet silence it's almost like hunny, I want it to go on for ever but it's broken by a spider's hiss.

"I dunno about you but I need sleep, I'ma try to sleep." I smile lightly and the pull my sword off my belt, "If you wouldn't mind guarding for a little while. If you get tired just wake me and I can watch." At that I take my bag off and make it as my pillow. I shut my eyes and try to focus on the stead sound of Rob's breathing.
