Hey! So i had to write an ending to the Giver for school so i thought i'd post it.
PS you might not understand if you haven't read the story!

Buried upon pile upon pile of frigid snow, Jonas made his way up to the surface. Lazily, his eyes wandered, looking for little baby Gabe. And suddenly, he didn’t see him, he heard him wailing away in the distance.
Jonas reached out over to Gabe and lay him face down and put his hands on his back. For comfort, Jonas fed him a vivid memory of sunshine.
Slowly, a smile spread upon Gabe’s face. Jonas experienced it too. He was lying in a hammock on a peaceful beach. Palm trees and pure white sand surrounded him. Sunshine crept in between the trees. It warmed his body and caressed his face. Gently, the hammock swayed but there was no breeze.
His happiness was interrupted by a familiar voice saying his name, “Jonas!” it said. “Jonas!” it exclaimed. “Jonas! Jonas!” it said repeatedly.
Jonas’s eyes opened unsteadily. Standing above him, he saw beautiful girl with red hair and green eyes.
“Jonas” she said. He now realized the beautiful girl was Fiona. “Jonas, you have blue eyes. Really, really pretty blue eyes.”
Jonas sat up and looked around him. He immediately recognized the setting, his old dwelling, the nurturing center, and the Annex behind the House of Old.
Not only was the setting familiar, he saw his family, his friends, that who were once so dear to him.
A woman with light brown hair and eyes ran up to him, gave him a kiss on the cheek. Jonas knew her to be his mother. “I love you, Jonas,” she said. She also added in, “now we can really see what beautiful eyes you have.”
Behind her, his father and Lily approached him tentatively. “And we can also see how many freckles you have,” said his father.
Jonas was totally flabbergasted. “You…you can see color!” he exclaimed.
“We can now,” said Fiona kindly, “We can because of you. Because you left. And now you, you and Gabe both, are back! And we are so, so happy!”
“You mean, it worked? Our plan worked?” Jonas said it utmost shock. Then, Jonas felt soft, cold hands he recognized on his back, helping him off the ground.
“Yes,” said a humble voice. “Yes, because of you. You, smart, smart boy! You made it work!” Jonas turned around and saw a wise old man standing behind him.
“Giver!” exclaimed Jonas as he ran into his arms. “I was so worried! How did you do it? How did you make it work? How did they handle the memories? What happened?”
The Giver chuckled and said, “All that later. You young man, need food. You look underfed.”
The Giver, Fiona, mother, father, Lily and Gabe led him to his old dwelling where there was a plentiful amount of food. But most importantly, Asher was there.
Asher ran up to him and gave him a meaningful hug. “Jonas, thank you! Thank you for releasing those memories!”
Jonas and everyone else sat around the table eating and chewing on food with the people he loved. “We rode for days on end without food or water. During the day, search planes would come look for us, so we had to hide in underbrush. And because of the heat sensors we had to live on memories of being cold. I now have the notion that we were riding in circles and then ended up here. Anyways,” he said, “I’m more interested in what happened here.”
“At first, it was awful,” said Asher. “Everyone was sitting, watching the ceremony when we felt all the memories.”
“We felt all the horrible ones at first,” said Mother. “We felt the broken bone, the poaching of animals. By the way, we know that animals are real now. Not just made up. We also experienced war, hunger and loneliness.”
“So, so many people begged for release,” said Father. The room when silent as everyone thought of the cruelty of release.
“I know it was wrong now, Jonas,” father said. “Everything about release is horrific. I feel very guilty about what I did to that twin.”
“And I the old,” Fiona chimed in.
“You couldn’t have known,” said Jonas, “At the time you didn’t know it was wrong.”
“But for the people who waited,” said Fiona, “They got to feel the happy memories. We felt sledding, sunshine, the picnic, sailing, and more.”
“Now we have weather, and music, and also color!” said Lily excitedly. “I love the feeling of summer and the color pink!”
“Thankfully,” said the Giver, “people have come to accept it. Well, mostly everyone anyways.”
“The Chief Elder didn’t accept it. She thought it best to wipe our memories and covert back to sameness,” Mother told him.
“Only people started protesting,” Father said. “She got scared and fled the community.”
“Not to mention,” Asher began, “their in the middle of making a new government,” said Asher.
“Almost everything is allowed now,” said Lily. ‘”Except release and having to take the pills. We got rid of those,” she said with a nod.
Jonas smiled in delight over the new life that was starting to taking place. “And also,” said Fiona, “we can now feel pain but also happiness. Everyone can hear music and see color. We’re also allowed to choose our own occupations, marry who we like, and have as many children as we want.”
Jonas was amazed by all the progress the community has made. “Giver,” said Jonas, “I think you should be the new mayor or the president of the new community.”
When the Giver heard this, he looked shocked but also flattered by Jonas’s offer. Everyone nodded in agreement. The Giver said, “’I’d consider it as an honor. But only Jonas, if you are vice president.”
Everyone at the table erupted in cheer and excitement. Jonas had felt the most happiest he had ever felt in his life. More happy than the memories could’ve ever made him. He knew he had a great life ahead of him and this was only the beginning. He was impatient to begin.
