I arrive at the agency once again and change my outfit, once again. Rolling my eyes at nothing, I get out of my car and start walking into the building. I can't believe he mentioned my dad. I guess I can't expect him to know. But, my mom knows, she knows that's why I don't like having partners. I don't want to be responsible for another life. That's what happened when I was nine. I didn't always work alone. My dad was my partner when I started my first mission when I was five and had to go undercover at a Little Princess Beauty Pageant. I've been doing this practically my whole life. When I was nine, my dad and I were assigned a mission. The mission he died on saving me. I never want to put anyone in the position he was in. That's why I don't want any partners. My mom thought I was crazy when I wanted to continue being a spy, but I'm doing it for him. Footsteps behind me pull me back to the real world. They are following me. For a moment, I forget where I am and pull out my gun and turn around. I then realize that I'm pointing it at Chase. He puts his hands up in defense.
"Hey, I haven't done anything," Chase says quickly. That's when I remember where I am. "Please don't shoot."
I lower my hand gun. "Sorry. I got caught up with something in my mind. I wasn't thinking." We arrive at my mom's office.
"Good, you're both here this time. Now let me explain your mission," my mom says. She pulls down her curtain so the room is basically dark. Then, a holographic screen appears. It shows pictures of artwork and one of a robot made of trash. "These pieces have been stolen recently. They are high in value and incredibly important. A few of these pieces contain a piece to a code. A code to unlock multiple dangerous secret files. Our sources have come to a conclusion that at first, the thief didn't know which artworks had pieces to the code, but now he seems to know. Now, we are not sure which where the next artwork piece the thief is looking for next, but we do have some suspects. Dr. Adrian Bradford: college professor, Robert Keaton: a successful business man, and Principal Andrew Kelson, your principal, along with Mr. Haydon Smith, your principal's assistant. I want you to start investigating tonight. You will search their office tonight, report back what you find. You both will ride in Scarlett's car, since, Chase, we haven't yet updated your car. Which we can have done by the time you get back from looking though their offices. Is everything clear?"
Chase and I nod. I can't believe pur own principal is part of this.
"Good, you both may go now. You are to report here by 6:30, before you go to the school." Chase and I walk out of the office in silence.
"Don't be late this time," I say as we reach the parking lot.
"I'll try not to, partner," I can practically hear the smile on his face. "But, I've got a pretty busy schedule."
I turn to face him. "This mission come first. So focus, no more being late." See have a partner makes me be in charge that he is also on time.
"Hey, I arrive when I arrive. You don't manage my time"
"Yeah, but you being late affects me too," I cut him off.
"That's your problem, not mine," he says.
"Actually it's both of our problems," I reply.
"Sure, partner. Whatever you say," he rolls his eyes, placing his hands in his front pockets.
"It's Scarlett. You don't have to call me 'partner'," I say.
"I know. But, I also know that it annoys you...partner." Ugh! He's so frustrating!
I roll my eyes. "Whatever you say...partner." That sounded so weird. I turn around and walk to my black car. I get in and as I drive out of the parking lot, it turns white. I arrive at my house at 2:30. What to do with my time? I check my phone and see a text message from Aubrey and Cassandra. I text them and in a few minutes they're both at my place.
