Your P.O.V. (Will contain both 'I', 'Me', and 'You')
Pain exploded through my body as I hit the ground, an "Oof" escaping my mouth as I landed. I could barely feel any of my limbs, testing each joint to see if they are working properly. Everything seemed to be in working order, and the pain was already miraculously going away.
I stood up, shakily at first, and then more steady like a horse taking its first steps. Black spots appeared before my vision, and I stumbled as my vision cleared. It was clear I was in a type of cavern or ruins.
The walls were made out of a type of purple stone, which in this light looked nearly black, and had a single bed of golden flowers that resembled a type of buttercups. Other than the flowers, it was not decorated at all, and was pretty plain looking. The only thing that intrigued me was a dark corridor at the right of the room. There was no other way to exit the room, except a hole on the ceiling (which I presume was how I fell through).
Shakily, I took a tiny step towards the corridor, thoughts racing through MY head. 'What if I can't find a way out? Where will this lead me to? Will I be forgotten by my mum and dad?' And I stopped walking. I can't remember your parents. Trying to picture other members of your family didn't work either. Brother? Nothing. Sister? Nope. Pets? Nada. Nothing except a name--which I believe is mine--is even showing a bit of skin inside my head, well nothing but that and a short paragraph of a storybook.
'Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS. One day, war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a magic spell.
Legends say, those who climb Mount Ebott never return.'
It seems important to this adventure I am now on, despite the danger I can sense. The two words that popped out the most though, were HUMANS and MONSTERS, but that couldn't be right. Monsters were just fairy book legends to stop children from misbehaving, and stuff like that.
Deciding to push this information for now to the back of my empty mind, I moved on forward through the--still purple--hallway, and my eyes rested upon a single golden flower like the ones in the first room. There was one thing off about this flower though, and it was the creepy smile it was wearing, with its plain black eyes.
The smile seemed too sweet and fake, that instantly rang alarm bells that anything this flower may say was a lie. I opened my mouth, about to talk to it when it opened its mouth before you.
"Howdy! I'm Flowey! Flowey the flower," it started off. Wow, such an original name, "Hmm...you're new to the UNDERGROUND, aren'tcha." 'So, that's what it is. I am in the underground. Nice to have a name to call it, instead of a cavern.'
The flower opened its mouth again, talking in a sickly sweet voice, "Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here!" One, of course I am confused, two, I am not taking advice from a flower, and three, it seems way too happy.
"I guess little old me will have to do. Ready? Here we go!" That was the last thing the flower said before a slight ache came from my chest, and in seconds, a floating silver-ish heart appeared before me in a box with words below.
L.V. 1. HP 20/20
That flower was across from me, with no structure or terrain around us anymore, like we were transported to a different dimension.
"Where the hell did you send us?" I asked, my words coming out a bit aggressively. I typically don't talk much, but the flower seemed to be a demonic evil, and this whole place just seemed confusing.
Flowey got a look at my heart thing, a look of surprise coming across his face before smiling again. "See that heart? That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being!" I looked down at the heart, angry that he (I'm assuming) ignored my question, but also curious about my "soul". It looked so fragile as if just one little touch could shatter it, but at the same time it could take on an amount of damage and not hurt that badly. "Your SOUL starts off weak, but can go strong if you gain a lot of L.V.," Flowey explained.
A small piece of irrelevant piece of information popped up. 'L.V., generally stands for level in gaming.'
Flowey continued to explain, "What does L.V. stand for? Why, LOVE, of course! You want some LOVE, don't you?"
"Uhh, no I don't. It doesn't sound as exciting as you're trying to make it out to be," I said, backing up, my soul following my movements. Apparently, it isn't confined to the box.
"Don't worry, I'll share some with you!" As the flower finishes saying that, it sticks a tongue out and closes its right eye into a wink. How does that work? It shouldn't. In fact, is this what that Storybook was talking about? Is this a monster?
As Flowey had winked, a white star type of thing exited its being, "Down here, LOVE is shared through... Little white... 'friendliness pellets.'" As it finished talking, the singular 'friendliness pellet' turned into five, surrounding its being.
"Are you ready? Move around! Get as many as you can!"
I moved away from the stars, my soul now hovering just above my chest and the box disappearing until it was just translucent. Weird, but the stats stayed the same. I would have trusted Flowey, had it not been for the sickly sweet smile and words that seemed memorized by heart.
When I dodged the pellets, the face of the flower changed for a split second, making it look menacing. "Hey buddy, you missed them. Let's try again, okay?"
Flowey's face changed again back to the smile. No matter now, you were not going to collect the stars. I moved myself and my soul out of line of them, making the flower angry again.
"Is this a joke? Are you braindead? RUN. INTO. THE. BULLETS!!! Err, friendliness pellets," I laughed quietly. Flowey failed on what it was supposed to say. I knew it wasn't supposed to be trusted.
I dodged the bullets one more time, making Flowey smile cruelly, and me backing up more. I covered my soul from view, though didn't touch it, some instinct telling me not to. Though, I really wanted to find out why.
"You know what's going on here, don't you? You just wanted to see me suffer." At the end of the sentence, bullets surrounded me and my soul in a wide circle, slowly closing in. "DIE!"
When the bullets were about to hit me, a fireball came from my right hitting the flower and sending it away, also causing the bullets to disappear.
Looking toward the direction, I wondered where did the flame come from? This isn't like the Hunger Games with the traps from the Gamemakers, right?
At the end of your little thought in your head, a goat type of creature came from where the flame did. She wore a type of robe/cloak with a insignia on the front. She had purple eyes and floppy ears that seemed soft to touch.
"What a terrible creature, torturing such a poor, innocent youth..." This goat's voice didn't have any hint of malice in it, only something soothing from a mother. "Ah, do not be afraid, my child. I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS." So, you are in ruins.
"I pass through this place everyday to see if anyone has fallen down. You are the first human to come here in a long time." But, if I am not the first human to be down here, then who was?
"Come! I will guide you through the catacombs." And with that, the terrain came back into view, the flower now gone and Toriel standing there with her arms folded around her. My first though upon seeing her stand like this was royalty. Maybe the RUINS were once a castle?
"I'm Ash," I greeted, smiling. I felt like this woman could be trusted... especially compared to that flower who just told you it was to kill or be killed. I'll find another way around it though, no dying, no killing.
A/N: Now, before I get into trouble, I do not own Undertale, sadly. Plus, I know this is copying the actual game, but I have a plan so bear with me. And, any music, references, or anything like that I do not own. UPDATE: June 9, 2017; I have gone back through and revised this. I have changed it from a reader-insert to just an OC that will be developing over time. And hopefully, this will now have regular updates that aren't a year apart... 1527 words!
