Chapter 30 Making Plans
Kevin sent the car to pick me up and it arrived promptly at 6pm, I got into the car and the driver closed the door before going around getting back into the driver’s seat. Once I arrived at the restaurant, I wasn’t sure I was at the right place; it was a new Korean restaurant.
It was very nice; each table had a hibachi grill to cook your own mixture of meats and vegetables. We asked for a table in the back corner so we could have some privacy and we could start planning for the wedding.
We went to the raw bar and selected what we wanted taking it back to our table and cooking it on the grill. We put the meet on the grill and added the vegetables to make a stir fry. While we waited for our dinner to cook we started thinking of dates for our engagement party.
“Baby have you thought of a date for the party?”
“Not really, but we can come to an agreement tonight because I really want to have a winter wedding.”
“Huh did you say a winter wedding?”
"Yeah a winter wedding; what’s wrong with that?”
"Well for one it’s going to be cold, two I thought we were having the ceremony outside and three what if it decides to snow?”
“Ugh you are such a baby. Number one it doesn’t get that cold here, two we can still have our wedding outside with a cover so our guest aren’t that cold and have the reception somewhere else and three how often does it snow here? Stop complaining and let’s set our party date.”
“I think we should set the party for October 12th. The wedding could be on December 7th? How does that sound?”
“The wedding date is perfect, but the date of the party isn’t.”
“What is wrong with the date of the party?”
“The problem with the date is that’s the week before the trial which is October 16th and I’m gonna be working through that weekend. Baby when we have the party I don’t want to have work or anything else on my mind, but you and me. I know you’re not happy about this but I promise to be there to help with whatever you need from me.”
“Ok, I guess, but you have to promise me something else.”
“I can try and promise anything for you sweetheart.”
“Promise me you won’t take on another case until after our honeymoon and the month of January, deal?”
I could tell he was struggling with his decision. I waited patiently and kept enjoying my food which was delicious. He looked at me and I gave him the most innocent smile I could hoping he would agree to my proposal. I didn’t say a word and after his huffing and puffing he was ready to answer me.
“Ok, ok; deal; I swear woman you know how to break a man down. So baby if it makes you happen that’s all I want.”
“Well having a winter wedding is what makes me happy baby.”
“Then it’s settled our wedding is December 7th. What time?”
“I was thinking about 4pm in the evening.”
“That sounds good to me. Now about the party; can we make it October 5th at about 8:00?”
“Ok, that sounds great and gives me a little over a month and half to get everything planned. I’ll get Toni to help me since we haven’t told our parents yet. I didn’t want to call and tell our family over the phone, but mom, Christina and Ebony will definitely be helping with the wedding.”
