6:00am

Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz...

Lucas groaned as he hit snooze on his alarm. "Just five... more min-"

7:20am

"Lucas Graham Friar! You get yer keister outta that bed right now!"

Lucas eyes slowly opened, he looked at his clock, then closed them again. Suddenly he shot upright in his bed. "Crap! I'm gonna be late!" Lucas flung his covers off him and quickly got up. He grabbed his towel from a chair that he used, and then quickly ran out of his room and into the shower in the bathroom next door.

Knock Knock Knock

"Lucas, you know we're on a water meter. You get five minutes in that shower and you're going into twelve."

"Ma, do you mind?"

"I've set out some clothes for you to wear and they're on your bed. Now you best hurry up, get out, and get changed before you mess your bus. Otherwise I'm coming in there!"

"MA!"

"Get out that shower Lucas."

Lucas sighed. He finished off washing his hair and then turned the shower off. He pulled back the curtain and stepped out onto the bathmat. He used his towel to get himself dry and then he wrapped it around himself, then he brushed his teeth.

Lucas walked back into his room to see what clothes his mother had put out for him. They hadn't been in New York for very long and didn't have a lot of Money, so the only clothes he had were the ones he brought with him from Texas; from home. It didn't take a genius to work out that how people dressed there compared to where he was now, is very different. Lucas but on a clean pair of boxer shorts and a clean pair of socks. Then he slipped on a black pair of jeans and a blue and white checked shirt before putting on a bolo tie and heading downstairs.

Lucas grabbed his bag and a piece of toast, he put on his boots and was ready to walk out the front door.

"Lucas, aren't you forgeting something?" his mom asked.

Lucas turned around.

"I love you ma." he replied.

"Ahem."

Lucas sighed, walked back to his mother and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

She hugged him.

"Oh Lucas, you need yer hat."

"I'm not wearing that hat mom."

She pulled out a cream coloured stetson and placed it on his head.

"Have a great day pumpkin."

Lucas walked out the house and made his way to the school bus stop. Already people on the street were staring at him, he looked and felt out of place. He hated it here. Compared to the place that he called home, New York was too big, dirty, less friendly, but above all just too noisy.

Lucas could finally see the bus turning up. When he got on board practically everyone was staring at him, and in particular what was on his head. Lucas took off his hat and held it in his hands. He just wished at that moment that he could just disappear, become invisible, at least not have everyone's attention focused on him. Lucas awkwardly made his way down the aisle of the Bus.

"Yeeeehaaw!" one kid cried which then immediately started a round of laughter across the vehicle.

"Howdy partner!"

"Aww shucks" someone else shouted.

Lucas just kept moving forward with his head down until he reached the back of the bus.

"Hey man, its probably best you don't sit there." said a guy wearing a black beanie.

"Oh um why?" Lucas asked.

"Thats Chad's seat." he replied.

"Whose Chad?"

"Ask him yourself. This is his stop."

As the doors hissed open, Lucas looked up to see who was getting onboard. Walking down the aisle was Chad Murray, a jock with jet black hair and intimidating physique, as well as friends who were getting on with him.

"Hey there Sheriff. This is the first time I've seen you so I guess you're new in town." he said to Lucas.

"Urh.. yes I am. This is my first day of highschool here." he replied.

"Well I guess I can overlook the fact that you're sat in my seat if you move you're country behind right now."

"But I.. I was.. I got here first." Lucas stammered.

"I.. I .. me and my... my cowboy hat got here first." Chad laughed as he mocked Lucas. "MOVE IT!"

Lucas got up and starting walking back down the bus trying to find another seat.

"Hey!"

Lucas turned back. It was the guy in the black beanie. He was gesturing to the empty seat next to him. Lucas went and sat down.

"Thanks for seat." he said.

"No problem."

"I'm Lucas."

"I'm Donnie."
