I washed my face and Cassandra redid my makeup. Keeping it simple, she only applied foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner, and a coat of clear lip gloss. Meanwhile, Aubrey put my hair up in a high pony tail. I could have done it myself, but they wouldn't let me. Ten minutes (or less) later I was in my car on my way to the agency. I arrived, ready and confident. I felt better, normal. I have the best friends ever. I walk into my mom's office and see my mom and Chase already there.
"Sorry I took so long, I had something to take care of," I give a small smile.
"Okay, well now you are both here. You may both go on now, it's getting dark," my mom says. We both nod and Chase and I walk out to the parking lot.
"Now look who was late," Chase says annoyingly.
"I had something important," I reply.
"I thought our mission comes first?" Chase smirks.
"The mission does come first, but I had to fix something before my mom killed me," I lie. I wasn't going to tell him I was crying. I get in the drivers seat as Chase gets into the passenger seat to my car.
"Uh-huh," Chase says. I roll my eyes in response. I drive to the school. It is dark when we arrive and the parking lot is empty. Good. I turn off the engine, but remain in my seat. "What are you doing?"
"We have security cameras, remember," I reply. I pull out a small computer and start typing. "And now they are disabled."
"Then let's go," Chase says and he and I get out of my car. We walk calmly over to the office. The school is dark. "The door is locked."
"Then, unlock it," I reply.
"Isn't that breaking and entering? I thought you people were good?" Chase asks.
"We are good. And it is breaking and entering, so what? It's part of the job," I shrug.
"So, Scarlett Goodie Goodie Carson does illegal things?" I can almost see the smirk on Chase's face. It's practically plastered there.
"It's not illegal when your on a mission. So, not really. Just unlock the door, or do I have to?" I roll my eyes.
"Uh-huh. I've got it. I can do things too you know," I hear the door knob jiggle a little bit and then the door opens.
"Whatever, let's just look around," I walk into the front office. "You look in Mr. Smith's office, I'll look in the principal's." I walk into the principal's office. It wasn't very large. I flip the light switch and bright yellow light floods my vision. I blink a few time to adjust to the light. Soon enough, I'm searching threw his desk and cabinets. I look throw all the stacks of papers and through the files. I'm looking through the student files when I stumble upon something interesting. Chase Eastern has been to juvenile detention? For breaking and entering into a gas station. When he was 15? I remember this. I didn't know it was him though. My mom hired a juvenile delinquent as my partner. Unbelievable. I didn't know that schools can have these records. There were three minors involved in it. I held the record in my left hand and searched Hunter's file. The same record. I did the same to Brayden's. Same record. They were all criminals. Some how that doesn't surprise me. I place Brayden's record back and switch to Hunter's file.
"Did you find something?" I hear Chase's voice ask. I look behind me and see Chase leaning on the door from. I quickly place the record in front of me so he can't see them.
Oh, I found something. "Um, no. You?" I reply.
"Nothing," Chase answers. "What are you looking at?"
"Nothing," I say placing Hunter's record in his file, then switching to Chase's file. "How did you pick the lock so fast?" I place the record in his file. I thought my mom does background checks on new spies.
"Um, practice I guess," Chase answers.
"I bet," I close the cabinet and turn to him.
"Yeah," Chase raises his right eye brow. I just roll my eyes.
"Let's go," I simply say. I flip the switch off and walk out. As we walk passed the front counter, a paper catches my eye. I grab it and walk back to the principal's office and turn on the light. It's a flyer for an upcoming art show. It's a dress occasion for rich people. And the are featuring an exclusive piece. This is it.
"What is it?" Chase asks.
"I think I know where the thief is going next," I show the flyer to Chase. The event is tomorrow night. Tomorrow was Saturday. There was no school.
"It's possible," Chase says taking the flyer.
I roll my eyes. "Let's go." In no time, we arrive at the agency and are in my mom's office.
"What did you guys find?" she asks.
"This," I place the flyer on her desk in front of her.
She looks it over. "This is most likely where the thief will be next. Which mean you two must go. I will say more tomorrow. You are to report here at four in the afternoon. Chase you car is ready. You may both go," my mom says.
Chase and I walk out to the parking lot and without a word, get in our cars and leave.
I'm on my way home when I get a call from Cassandra.
"Hello?" I answer.
"Hey, Scarlett. Are you still coming, Aubrey is on her way?" Cassandra asks. Right, we are sleeping over at her house today. Every Friday we take turns and either sleep over at one of our houses.
"Yeah, just let me pick something up and I'll be over," I reply.
"Great, see yah," she says.
"See yah," I reply and hang up. I get to my house and pack a set of pajamas, another set of clothes, and five different movies in a black drawstring bag. Then I head to Cassandra's house.
