I was always in the dark, hungry, and alone. There was a small window at the top of my cell, a light I could never reach. I have been locked up here for as long as I can remember. Not even the people, Hyakugan Mao's people, know how I got here. I was especially afraid of Hyakugan Mao's son, Chin Yiso. He was very sadistic and always had a cruel smile on his face. One day a woman was brought to the castle and locked up. I stared at her for a good hour before speaking up. "Seems they locked you up too." I was hugging my knees tightly to my chest. She looked a bit frightened of me at first, but her face became calm. "Are you a demon, child?" She asked me. I nodded me head, but I realized she couldn't see me very well in the dark. "Yeah..." I replied looking away. "How come they locked you up?" She asked. Seems humans like to ask a lot of questions. "They didn't. I've been locked up here for as long as I can remember." I replied. She looked at me sadly. "Why did they lock you up?" I asked, but I already knew the answer. Hyakugan Mao is a terrible demon that eats young, beautiful women. He takes them from villages near and far, making his men do all the work for him. "I do not know, but what I do know is that the towns people offered me to save their daughters." She replied. That pissed me off. No kind lady like her should be locked up in this dark, damp place.
"Although, I know Gonou will come to save me." She said. I smiled upon hearing that someone would come save this nice lady. "What's your name?" I asked. "It's Kanan." She replied smiling happily. "I'm Meiko." I told her my name, suddenly remembering it. "Meiko? What a pretty name." Kanan said. That made me blush a little and look away. We were silent for the next few days, not wanting to attract any unwanted attention. One day, I heard the screaming of demons echoing down into the prison cells. I listened carefully to see if there was anyone coming down here, and there was. Foot steps echoed off the walls and stairs as someone walked down here. The strong smell of rusty, metallic blood hit my demon nose. I got into my fighting stance which consisted of me growling while on all fours. A man that was completely covered in demon blood appeared. He had a sheathed knife blade at his hip, and I could smell that the blade was what killed the demons that had screamed upstairs. He went over to Kanan's cell and fell to his knees. "Kanan! I'm so glad you're safe! Let's go home, Kanan. I promise I won't leave you alone again." The man said. From how he said it, I'm guessing that was Gonou. "I'm sorry Gonou, but I can't leave this place. That man... I'm carrying that horrible man's child!" Kanan said looking away. I sunk to the ground. No matter what, Kanan just had to leave this place.
Kanan slowly reached for the knife at Gonou's hip, and I scrambled to the front of my cell, shaking the bars and shaking my head no. She pulled it out of it's sheath and scooted back, so Gonou couldn't take it back. "Goodbye, Gonou..." Kanan said her final words as she plunged the knife into her stomach. I felt tears form at my eyes, and began shaking my prison bars even more so. Gonou slowly turned around, fianlly noticing me. I saw he had tears as well. He had a hard, but sad, expression on his face, but it softened up when he saw me. I suddenly heard another pair of familiar foot steps. I cowered back to the darkest corner of my cell, covering my ears not wanting to hear what that demon had to say. After a few minutes, I smelt blood and opened my wet eyes and uncovered my ears. I saw Chin Yiso lying on the cold floor in a pool of his own blood. Gonou reached down and took the key that was at Chin Yiso's hip. He unlocked my cell door, and I slowly made my way out. I poked Chin Yiso one time to see if he was really dead, and he didn't even budge. I smiled a small, sad smile before bowing and thanking Gonou. He returned my small smile, with one of his own, except even sadder than I was. That was when I noticed he was injured severly in the stomach. "You're hurt badly!" I shouted. He just shook his head, telling me not to worry about it. Gonou walked up the stairs and out the door, while I followed behind him.
(Hiya, everyone! First story on Wattpad! I've been a realy big fan of Saiyuki for a long time now, and I thought it was finally time to make a fanfiction on it! BTW, that's Meiko's picture on the side.)
