“Yeah you’re worse than nicotine, nicotine!” Somebody was singing at the top of their lungs in the shop, but I was too distracted to even realise. I had my headphones in; I was four hours into my shift and I had already listened to the three Pierce The Veil albums, and I had spent the remaining time listening to Kissing In Cars on repeat. Sadness swarmed through me, engulfing my body and causing me to go numb; distant. Stocking shelves - that’s what I was meant to be doing. Instead, I was staring blankly at the cold, plastic case of a Michael Jackson CD, listening to the quiet voice of Vic Fuentes and clearly remaining oblivious to the singing being trying to grab my attention. “Woah,” They said. “MJ must be real interesting.”

I sighed and managed to pull myself together, looking to the being beside me. It was Alex and he was looking at me with his ever-so-happy expression on his face. “Sorry, daydreaming.” I said, laughing lightly and placing the MJ CD in it’s rightful place.

“Some daydream.” I pulled my headphones out as he spoke.

“Never mind my daydream, what are you doing here? It’s like the eighth time this week you’ve been in. I’m starting to think you have a thing for me again.” I decided to crack a bit of a joke in hope it would make it seem like there was nothing wrong with me.

“Oh baby, I just can’t resist.” He smirked, dramatically brushing the back of his hand down my cheek. “I’m kidding. I’m just bored.”

“Where’s Jack? Isn’t he your usual source of entertainment?” I asked as I placed another CD on the rack. He told me Jack was probably off fucking the first girl he could get his hands on. I told him that was an elegant way to put it.

“What you been listening to?” He asked, to break the silence, as he stole an earbud and placed it in his ear.

“Thought I’d give Pierce The Veil a go. They’re pretty good to be honest.”

“I like, I like.” He said as he dropped the bud and jumped up onto a table that held multiple different boxes of old CDs. I shoved him off and walked over to another shelf to stack. “Speaking of Pierce The Veil, rumor has it that Vic has his memory back.”

“Yup.” I said, popping the ‘p’.

“Rumor also has it that he stayed at yours last night. Care to explain Miss Jardine?” I explained to him what happened but he wasn’t for believing that there was nothing going on between us. “Stop acting all innocent.” He smirked at me.

“He has a girlfriend.” I said in a more spiteful tone than I had planned. I wish he didn’t. I guess I just wasn’t in the mood to joke today.

“Woah, I’m sorry if I offended you-”

“No.” I interjected. “I’m just tired, and I get snappy when I’m tired.” I lied. “Sorry.”

“It’s okay. But it won’t be okay if you don’t turn up at my party tomorrow.”

“Is there actually any specific reason why you’re having a party?”

“Because I want one?” This caused me to laugh slightly. “You have to come because if you don’t I will egg your hamster.”

“That’s just animal abuse.”

“I don’t think you want to see Peanut swimming in egg yolk.” I stayed silent for a moment but in the end I told him I’d be there. I didn’t have time to say much else because he said a quick ‘good’ before running out of the store shouting “Jack!” as he had just walked past - most likely on the hunt for Alex.
