Thomas POV:
When I agreed to help people at the school I thought it would be a constant flow not a party of them on leashes. Kai shows up at his regular intervals bringing four or five possessed people. Then something dawned on me. So today when he shows up I have to ask him. As I sit in front of the computer looking at Pandora hoping for one specific song I hear a massive crash. "Hey Thomas, so funny story but that vase you liked is broken"
Well that's one way to make an entrance ... I guess. He stood in the doorway on top of my robots dragging people in. Using Castor's notes I figured out I don't even need to enter peoples souls to purge them. He also says entering souls can be used to affect the persons relationships and powers. In a weird experiment he was exploring what exactly we can do to a persons attraction towards others. He found a small house inside his soul and it had a bunch of weirdly labeled switches and dials. One was labeled attraction to men and another was labeled attraction to women. He turned off the attraction to women and turned on the attraction to men purely to see what would happen. Pollux was okay with the changes and Castor just decided not to fix it. So Pollux is gay because of Castor.
Anyway, I purged their souls in a matter of moments. Leaving me with five disoriented students and Kai sitting in a room. Kai wouldn't leave until every student was 100% better. Kai smiled softly. He felt a little bit better being here I can sense it. "Hey Kai, I, um, well I was reading some of these journals and it got me thinking. I have never been in a lot of my friends souls and I wanted to practice some skills that can only be used in souls so I was wond--"
Kai sat down on the couch next to me. "You do realize I literally can't say no. Part of my orders for taking care of you is saying yes to any request as long as I believe I can keep you safe while doing it."
I smiled at him and closed my eyes lightly . When I opened them I was standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean. I looked around. Moving away from the cliff there is a small hotel. My pop culture knowledge is telling me Kai is in there. I step in to a warm room. It was filled with flowers and bright, pastel colors. Kai stood behind a desk of candy. He stood there wearing an electric pink shirt and jeans. "Ah welcome, I see you admiring my chrysanthemums they're a family favorite. I'm Kai, do you have a reservation or am I gonna have to pencil you in?"
Kai had massive grin on his face. He started dancing in place. He was still obviously waiting for an answer "Well I don't think I have a reservation but could you possibly pencil me in under Thomas Cartwell."
A second Kai walked up. He seemed much more professional wearing a suit and tie. His eyes were cold but he had a small smile that seemed warm enough. His voice was the same flat tone I heard when we met his family. "Well, if it isn't Thomas? You are welcome here. We do have a room prepared for your arrival. I would actually much appreciate it if you would come into our dining hall I'd love to share some tea with you and chat before I show you to your room."
Kai showed me to a small table in the center of a large room. The room was filled with books and famous paintings. On the table was a small glass holding a single yellow carnation. He motioned to a wooden chair. I sat down and looked around. He slipped out of the room. "Thomas, what kind of tea would you enjoy? My personal favorite is a chamomile but I also have chai, green, or a ... it appears I'm out of oolong."
I don't really like tea but I don't mind some every once in a while. Kai also doesn't like tea he always said it left a bad taste in his mouth. Mandy once invited him to tea and he refused. He turned down an invitation from Mandy his best friend. "I'll try chamomile, I guess."
Not long after Kai walked in holding a small tea set. He set a cup and saucer in front of me and one at his spot. He was chattering about nothing but I was occupied by what was happening in the other room. I heard the front door open. "Kai, I'm back." It was another Kai this one was so quiet and sounded almost tired. "I brought back firewood. I hope it'll be of use this time."
I stood up and moved towards the door. The new Kai was wearing grey pajama pants and a navy blue shirt. He was holding a small pile of logs. Kai 1 (happy Kai) ran right up "you did a wonderful job. I hope you know just how much I appreciate you doing that for me."
Kai 3 (sad Kai) perked up a bit he actually smiled. Unfortunately, Kai 2 (Professional Kai) walked out there. "Kai did you send Kai out to find more firewood. You do realize just how counter-productive that is, at least it is my hope you do? This Inn doesn't even contain a wood stove."
Kai 3 seemed to wither under the scrutiny. Kai 1 placed his hand on Kai 3's shoulder. "Hey don't listen to meanie head remember what I told you before? You are doing great as long as you're doing your best. While he can't seem to appreciate how hard you've been trying I can so just smile for me one more time, please. Come on let me see that smile."
#3 smiled faintly and started walking away. He opened a small secret door behind all the wall of chrysanthemums. I could see into the room just a bit. There were stacks of wood everywhere. I could see watering a small withered flower. The petals were lightly brown but still had some pink tint to them. He closed the door and disappeared. #2 stepped towards the room I was in. Ushering me back to the table he spoke calmly and quietly hiding the annoyance I can tell he's feeling. "Ah, you saw that minor exchange didn't you I'm very sorry about that. He is a ... Well to be frank he is a reject. We have far to many of those most go over the bluff never to be seen again but he seemed to get really attached to Kai and well Kai isn't one for denying a request."
I am kinda confused they all refer to each other as Kai but I'm having trouble following which one their talking about. So #3 shouldn't be there but he is because #1 can't say no to people and #2 hates that I think. I distractedly sip my tea trying to figure it out when a bubbly voice fills the room. "Mr. Cartwell your room is ready please come this way."
#1 lead me down a deceptively long hallway. I walked past each room a few had voices that sounded like Kai one was rambling on about Paul, another science, finally we arrived at my room. Or at least I thought until a sword came flying through nearly hitting my face. "This is my room you are next door."
#1 leaned back and smiled. "That's right you moved because you didn't have a door after stabbing through it so many times. I had it replaced so if you wanted to go back that is always an option for you." he turned to me "yeah he's just a little murder-y. Kai tried to toss him off the cliff and almost got knocked off himself. It was a terrifying experience but we all got a lot closer because of it. I mean the two of them refuse to talk to each other and he stabs his sword through the door a little more intensely when Kai walks past but we're still friends."
This is so weird Kai is talking about how scared he was without his smile even shaking. His eyes expressed how he felt but his face was always an unwavering smile. "I think its time I head back and you can go back to being a normal human."
I closed my eyes. No more of Kai's soul now I'm back in the weird little house. Kai is staring at me expectantly. "Well I went into your soul and it was a little different than I expected. I was at some in near a cliff an--"
He gasped excitedly. "You saw it! You saw my grandmothers inn." I nodded lightly "she used to run it when I was a little kid. She had a power to make flowers bloom all except for one little, white and pink lilac. She kept it in a small room behind a wall of shelves that she covered in flower pots. I swear it looked like a wall of flowers. My favorite room to be in was the tea room it was normally packed but she always let me sit at a small table in the middle she always kept one flower in the cup on the table. I think she said it was a Calla lily. She would always make me tea and I'd drink it happily but since she passed I haven't even been able to look at tea without thinking of her."
I leaned on him. "You know you can talk to me anytime you need. I'd love to be able to help you move forward past some of your past. I think Mandy would love to take you to get tea sometime soon she's been bugging me to convince you."
